I’m having an issue with my 2022 Tacoma SR access cab. Every time I go to put my seat belt on I have to give it 3-4 tugs before it unwinds. I discovered through trial and error it’s happening because of the clam shell design of the access cab. The impact of the closing of the door is making the seatbelt tensioner lock up. Once I have unlocked the tensioner it’s fine until I open and close the door again. I have had the truck for about 3 months and it’s only now started becoming an issue. Anyone else have this problem?

mine does that sometimes, not often, but sometimes. Maybe if its excessive you should talk to the dealer? Its still under warranty.

Mine does it on occasion, has since new. It’s just one of the quirks of the Tacoma access cab, my 2nd gen did it as well.

Yeah, I am having this problem on my passsenger side. I thought my wife was doing something wrong. What is the solution? Does it release with the door open?

Mine is excessive but hate to drive two hours to have the dealer tell me nothing is wrong.

Don't know what to tell you, unless you want to go poking around in the seatbelt reel, which I do not recommend.

It might be twisted where it bolts at the access cab door. I will look at it. That might cause it not to pull straight.

Are you parked on a slope when this happens? The seat belt that I saw in the late 90s on my Dodge had a brass weight that would tip and lock the mechanism. If parked on a slope, it would tip easier.

That said, you never should get any resistance from the dealer about fixing seatbelt issues.

I thought my passengers were pulling it out too fast. Then it started happening to me on the drivers side.

I'm not having that issue on my 2019, either side. I'd for sure take it by the dealer.

While my seatbelt lock is sensitive sometimes to the point of touchiness, I don't believe I'm quite seeing this issue.

I tried moving the seat belt adjustment extender at the top of the belt, down a notch and made sure it locked in place. That has seemed to help so far. I would give it a try to see if that helps. Please let us know if it works for you.

Try pulling the seatbelt gently or slower. Noticed that if I yank mine out hard or fast it locks up. 2017 off road

Doesn't sound like it's normal. I think you should have the dealer check it. Maybe wait for some other warranty issues to develop before you drive to 2 hours.
