I've got a lead that I am considering purchasing for a crashed 3rd gen that needs the frame chopped off in front of the front leaf mounts and a new one attached. Having some trouble finding a DCLB frame to chop, but there's plenty of access cabs.

Anyone know if the frames are similar enough? It seems that given the bed length and such it would make sense the mounts for fuel tank and such would probably be similar, especially how Toyota likes to do things the same as much as they can and the difference would be under the cab itself but I don't know for sure.

Anyone have some knowledge with this?

From what I remember reading on here you can’t weld the frame because Toyota uses high strength steel and welding messes with the temper. I think that you would have to replace the entire frame.

Apparently many people think the Tacoma frame is glued together. Heating the frame to bend or straighten is to be avoided. As far as weakening the steel, cutting and welding in a section will not be any different than when Dana Corp or whoever builds Tacoma frames today welds them.
