    Just the basics
I am one of the few who have an 09 converted to an 08. I got lucky here and found a member who was selling his rear seats after a severe accident. He is lucky to be alive. If you are planning on putting kids back there I think the 09 change is more suitable for that. Why not take those car seats to the dealer and try it out. Put the seats in, put the kids in the seats. See how it all works out. If you don't need the bed length I would say get the double cab.

This is my 3rd Toyota Xtra Cab and I like having a full bed and some way to transport more people just in case and places in-cab to store stuff. Sometimes I think about getting a double cab but then that passes and I come back to reality. My 15 y/o daughter made it mostly in the back seat on a trip to Death Valley fairly well. Towards the end I could tell it was getting cramped for her.

In mine I had 3 people (when rides bail you do what you gotta do) in back (2 in the seats and 1 on the floor) they are no shorter than 5'2". And me driving and a pasenger up front. But if i were you I would get a double cab.

I previously had a 2008 DC SR5 Pre-Runner and it got rear ended. Two things I regretted about this truck. Having 2 WD and a short bed. It always seemed when it came time to haul something I would have to let it hang out of the rear of the bed or hook up a trailer. It was a great people hauler. But it was not what I bought a truck for.

This time I went with the 2010 AC 4X4 and I love it. I ordered it exactly with what I needed. It does not have the bells and whistles of the SR5 or TRD. It does have auto trans, power windows, locks, and the V6. It was already hard wired for cruise and that was added. The 2009 and 2010 models also come standars with TRAC. A great feature for bad road conditions. With the longer bed I have also added an easily removable tool box for added storage and still have room close to a double cab box.

We have my wifes car for people hauling. I guess it depends on what you want to use your truck for.

I traded my mazda b-series for my 08 access cab. Carseat locks in the backseat passenger side and is very secure. Daughter is 3 so the carseat is not rear facing.

I might've considered an access cab for about a second before deciding on the double cab. For the booster seat it fits much better and a lot more room back there in general.
Plus the wife and I are going to be having another soon (I'll be looking forward to the conception part :)) and I needed something that can handle a rear facing carseat.
