It has been -10 to -20 F for the last week here. Got up to mid 20s and felt like summer... Only had one toy to play with today... Silver ended up helping a young guy and his girlfriend in a Honda Accord that got stuck on the lake ice.. felt good to help them out..

    ARE MX truck cap
30 years of toyota pickup/tacoma access cabs.............

    o) 1989 - Metallic red - Toyota Pickup Access Cab longbed 2wd with Cap - 248K miles
nothing lasts forever. traded it in on a 2005

    o) 2005 - Metallic Blue -1st gen tacoma Acces Cab longbed 2wd with cap - 252K miles
nothing lasts forever. traded it in on a 2020

    o) 2020 - Metallic Grey - 3rd gen tacoma access cab longbed 4wd with cap....so far so good.
I really wanted a 2wd, dark green....but couldn't find one. But this will
do nicely and looks sharp. I like the LED lighting in the ARE truck cap.

I just wanted some basic storage behind the seats....and couldn't afford the
dbl cab..or A/C for that matter!....actually...I'm not even sure if they had those in 1989.......
so i got the access cab in 1989 and stuck with it.
Fits just right in the small driveway. I use the tailgate as a work space.

Then again, if i had a real house and real garage i'd probably be making real money
    so i could afford...............................

The only reason I ended up with a double cab was lack of wanting to wait for an access cab.

It seems like dealers just don't care about bringing them in for stock because of the Mr. Mom syndrome.

I can see the Double Cab need for a family with younger children or if the owner expects to have more than one passenger continuously. If I had my choice and they still made it, I'd have a new standard cab TRD offroad in a 6 sp manual with the V6. Come on Toyota! Have had two standard cabs and put over 425,000 miles on them. For my purposes that is what I'd want. Next best thing was an access cab.

When I was buying mine earlier this month there were 8 available nationwide (ignoring white since I wasn’t going to accept that color) according to CarGurus and Cars.com. I bought the only Voodoo Blue one. There were 2 red, a black, three greys, and 2 silver. No army green or cement. That was around the 1st though.

When I went shopping for a new tacoma in August 2020, dealers didn't give a shit about getting me the truck i wanted.
Maybe thats just the way it is now...or because of COVID or whatever.
Granted the last time i bought a new tacoma was 2005 and the local dealer located the truck I wanted...at some dealer in the midwest
and had it trucked to DE.

This time with the 2020.....all i got was smirks and no such help.
Went to multiples dealers in multiple states and eventually found a suitable truck.
Wasn't exactly the one i wanted....but good enough.
One dealer said this to me....quote: "If you want a certain truck your going to have to find
    it yourself"....................

Same here in Texas. Dealers said I would have to order it, then would ghost me when I tried to follow through on the order. Like yours said, I just kept searching and found it myself. Got lucky and found one exactly the spec I wanted in the color I wanted, so bought it and drove out that weekend and picked it up.

I hate having more than one passenger. The last time I carried a passenger in the back seat of my 1991 Toyota truck they spilled a fucking milk shake.

Waited 5+ months for mine. In manual. Absolutely worth the wait.

Couldn’t be happier at how simple and archaic this thing is for a current generation vehicle.

They are an old set of Koenig Countersteers (sold by FN) I had on my 06 Taco. 16x8 zero offset but the ultra light version at 17.5 lbs. Have 265/75-16 Michelin Defenders on the wheels. So each wheel/tire assembly is 4 lbs lighter than stock.

Thought I'd try them out and maybe powder coat them a different color down the road.

To be fair, if Toyota had offered the DCLB in manual; I would have bought it. But I had to have a 6’ bed (same reason as you) and had to have a manual; so I had to get the access cab. She sure is easy to maneuver around town though.
