I come from having an old '90 SR5 Xtra Cab that I have had multiple adventures with, including a 3.4 conversion, years ago. They didn't offer any description of a back door, back then (except for foreign market HiLux Crew Cabs), so dealing with the back interior space could be a PITA, at times.
I wanted the Double Cab for the room, and ease of access for carrying my pups, and thought it might be nice to be able to take some friends that have never 4 wheeled out to see the boonies, once in a while.
for the way I actually use a truck, now (retired), the short bed is plenty for most anything I'm likely to do with it.

This truck suits my needs better than any vehicle I’ve ever had. The 5 speed with the 4cylinder I’ve heard is bulletproof and very easy to work on.

It’s a great day and a sad day. I just got the news that my wife is pregnant! Im super excited to become a father but I’m faced with the reality that my access cab will be obsolete in about 9 months. My question to y’all, do you think I can squeeze a baby seat into the back? Or should I take the next 9 months to pray that truck prices dive so I can sneak my way into a double cab long bed. Or do I go really crazy and try to pick up a 20 or 21 tundra since the 22’s are hitting dealerships. Any advice would be great!

Unless your wife is 4'2", you will not like putting the baby seat in the back. In order for it to fit properly, the passenger seat needs to be slid all the way forward. Had to transport the grandson a while back, and let's just say grandma was not happy. Got cursed on why I traded the double cab in for the access cab. "So I can sleep better in the longer bed when I go fishing." was not a viable answer, evidently...

 

Yeah she’s 5’7” so that will be tough. We use the truck for all our camping. Maybe it’s time to get the wife a 4Runner so we can use that for camping and I’ll start looking for a double cab

 

My nine year old granddaughter rides in the jump seats in my access cab, I’ve even stuffed my wife back there.
