    Welcome to TW!

I love my access cab, and my 6' bed has just enough space for me to sleep in with the tailgate/topper hatch closed. For me, it's the perfect rig for traveling and camping and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I went with an access cab. The long bed was a must for me, I haul kayaks in the bed (with a bed extender).

    Access cab advantages
    - long bed with the same turning radius and breakover angle as the DCSB
    - looks better and is a little cheaper

But the double cab has some advantages.
    - more storage behind and under the back seat
    - much easier to put groceries or "stuff" in the double cab, the access cab's suicide doors are a pain in a parking lot
    - more aftermarket support than the access cab. Most things are the same, but not all

Depends what you are willing to sacrifice. I wasn't willing to sacrifice the bed space because I can't lay down in a short bed, and I didn't want the longer wheelbase so I got an access cab. I love it and have no regrets. The only real disadvantage is that you probably aren't ever going to fit two full grown humans in the backseat of an access cab, but that has worked to my advantage nearly every time it's come up by having an easy way out of driving people around

I'm a full time volume photographer, so I have a lot of gear. My first truck was an '86 Toyota pickup regular cab w/ 6' bed. Yes, the longer bed was nice to carry 6' canvas backgrounds, but I regretted not having the extra space for temperature controlled (and more secure) storage for camera and lights. I inherited a 2005 Dodge Dakota extra cab when my father passed. I absolutely cannot stand the suicide doors. When you are in a parking lot, I can't get my gear out because I'm trapped between the two doors. I currently have a 2020 Tacoma double cab on order. Hope this helps your thought process.

    Welcome to the forum.
Look at what you are hauling and where you are putting it and then decide.
I really like my extended cab because I wanted the larger bed. What space behind the seat is fine for a few bags but not much else. The jump seats are worthless unless you have very small children. You can keep a few things back there that you don't want to leave in the bed.

Double cab. Even then it’s quite small...

    Like, so many.
I don't normally recommend the DCLB, but it sounds like it would really suit your needs.
