Looking for opinions from those with access cabs primarily. I had a DC but as that our kids are grown we never used the back seat, and I had it for those just incase moments. I'm about to get another taco and I'm debating getting just an access for the lower price point, and I'm also pretty sure that my mountain bike may slide into the back with the seat folded up (bikes front tire off) where in my DC I couldnt because you dont get full floor to ceiling height.

Any opinions, regrets about access would be welcome

Access cab for single people and double cab for wives and girlfriends for all their makeup and shoes and extra clothes.

long bed for work and your atv and motorcycle and short bed for the weekend warrior.

I think I might be able to get my mountain bike in my double cab back seat (not that I would, but I think I could make it fit.) Though to be fair, the amount of times I've actually had passengers in the rear of a dc is so low that it's really only for storage and looks. I think with the access cab seats folded up you'd have less chance of damaging upholstery too, so that might be the way to go.

Toss the bike in the bed -

Love my Access Cab. No kids so it works great. Plus I can haul my 10 foot kayaks in the bed with ease and lumber rocks back there too.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Access cab. Never had anything but.
First 120 lb canine loved the back and traveled with me everywhere.

Wanted longer bed with a cap. Rack on the cap for occasional hauling of long stuff. Landscape trailer for lots of long stuff or my subcompact tractor.
    Works best for my needs.

I ride on trails in the middle of the city sometimes (Philly) so being able to put it inside the cab keeps curious eyes away when I stop for cheesesteaks lol

My access cab is ten years old and no regrets. Will be replaced with like for like when time comes.

Same here one access cabs. Wife has her own car. I've got a couple rubber/plastic tubs back there with some tools and gear...its all i need. Im able to carry/store more in a 6' bed for various times if needed without the need for a longer truck.

When I was shopping for a Tacoma, I test drove both. I immediately noticed that the I think that the AC has better visibility. Of course there are less ACs on dealer lots, but fortunately I found a TRD OR AC. I'm okay with the silver I bought, but it would have been nice to have more options in colors without having to order.

I also didn't need the rear seat in a DC. I removed the AC's jump seats and put in a Goose Gear flat floor. My fridge now sits behind the seats.

Most of all, I really like having a 6 ft. bed. The DC with a 6 ft. bed would have not fit in my garage. I put a Diamond Back cover on it, and that extra foot is great. Like below, my trimmer fits perfectly along the side.

Sure, a DC's advantage is that one can take more than one passenger. However I have a 4Runner for when I need more passenger space.

Love my access cab. "Back" has more than enough for my 55lb dog on a homemade platform. Though you could always do a rear seat delete, I have put people in the back seat twice, so I keep them.

Only real issue I've noticed that would make me second guess my purchase is some aftermarket accessories aren't compatible with access cabs (rack up top is the major one for me). Access cabs don't even come with holes to attach your own and you have to riv nut them yourself, which I haven't been man enough to do yet.

Otherwise, with the wife having a compact car and me with the AC OR with no kids/1 dog, its worked out extremely well over the last year +.

I like the double cab. It’s great for trips for the luggage or when I have the grandkid and go out. I always liked 4 door vehicles also, just like the extra room.

    Like, so many.
If I didn’t have a young family I’d do ACLB.

Truth be told if I win the lottery I'm gonna have a DCB TRD setting right next to my Access Cab...

Parked of course in front of a beautiful house so the neighbors can drool.
    I'll have a 15 x 20 wood/work shop for the wife - ( she can work the tools for sure )...
I'll have a major garage to house the trucks / cars / and camper.
And I'll have a covered car-wash area so I can keep my toys shiny and clean.

Ya'll chip in and make it come true 'eh ?

Even if passengers were of no concern I'd probably get a 4 door for inside lockable storage space. When folded down the back seats proved a large (tall) cargo-space with the hard plastic backside seats folded down. The bed is not as bad at 5 foot. with the tail gate down you can haul all the same crap. add a roof rack and you have more space up there.

Also , if you are cool and want to build a bed cage for real shocks so you can smash through da woops , the double cab will have the bed cage tucked up nice a clean against the cab.

Access cab for the win! Most of my kids can drive now, so I don't need the back seats. Plus, the access cab looks better IMO.

My $0.02 had a couple of access cabs both 2nd and 3rd gen.

The only thing that I didn't like (but could live with) was how the rear doors open and close. This was my only vehicle and used everyday. In a parking spot to open the rear door you kinda have to clamshell open both doors. You end up with the driver's door open with your left hand and the rear door open with your right. You are in the middle and your grocery cart/kid/wife is behind one of the open doors and your butt up against the car besides you. Kinda have to scratch your head for a second and do some thinking. Soooo actually planning how to open the rear doors might be challenging for some of us ;-)
