Could also use the roof rack to haul the kayaks.:)

My roof is still bare but that's where I'll likely mount them once the Prinsu arrives....if it ever arrives. Haha

i solved that problem with my access cab by getting a Lomax tonneau cover and already had a bed extender i got with the truck, I just open the tail gate and first panel of the tri-fold and put whatever I bought in the bed. then close it back up. the bed extender when folded in makes a handy bed divider.

I love my access cab. I stuff my daughter (40) and my granddaughter (7) in the jump seats on occasion and while it’s a squeeze they survive.
If I were to do it all over again I’d get another access cab.

I love my AC. Have a Snug-Top canopy with Track-Rack ladder racks on top. The tiny short bed is OK for some, but would not work for me. I have, only for a short distance, put a person on one of the jump seats...It's OK in a pinch...Normally it's got a collection of tool boxes for my work. Regarding the 4-Door Taco's ....We looked at them and deemed the back-seat not that much better. Getting in and out is a pain. Perhaps OK for small kids?...Big ones - NO!. Here's the bottom line. The Taco is designed for 'hauling stuff'. We solved the problem a couple of years ago and purchased a new 4-Runner. It has a back seat you don't have to apologize for!. The 4R is for 'hauling people'. Both machines are great for towing or going where you want off-road. Trying to do both jobs with one vehicle will require a number of compromises...I've posted pictures of both in the past. Clay

Prefer the DC because when I need a nap while on a long trip, laying down on the rear bench seat is more comfy & restful that trying to sleep in the drivers seat.

Just me 99% of the time. The reasons I didn't go access is because less space in the cab for cargo, you have to always open up both doors to grab something, and it's harder to sell depending on where you are. Technically shorter but doesnt really make a difference offroad. Aftermarket Parts also tend to have more testing, documentation, and experience on Double cabs. Oh, and it's only $300 more. Seemed like a no-brainer.

For looks, I think the DCSB > ACLB > DCLB. Full disclosure, I have the DBL short bed :)

I have an access cab and love it for many reasons stated by others.

My partner has a normal car so that takes care of worrying about having to travel with more then just the two of us.

I personally like the access cab because most full grown adults would hate to sit on the jumper seats in the back; thus nobody bothers me to drive em around unless it’s quick or some sort of precarious situation.

one thing I do not like is that in terms of aftermarket options it can limit choices for you as some companies don’t give equal focus on access cabs for their products.

simply put if ya don’t have to cart a bunch of people around regularly and ya don’t mind a few less options in terms of aftermarket stuff then you would like the access cab as they are a little less common then the majority of other 3rd gen’s on the road!

I enjoy my ACLB and would not switch. Our teenage daughters fit in the back and are good enough for 1.5hr trips. I fit back there also with the seats adjusted normally but have not gotten to actually ride back there.

Two main pluses for me and the AC is it's lighter than the 4dr and I can sleep in the long box with the softopper.

ACLB for me. But if there is any chance you'll need to carry back seat passengers skip the AC, there is just no room back there for that.

Not sure an AC is cheaper than a crew cab, at least on the bottom line. With only one assembly plant building AC's they are not as plentiful on the dealer lot so don't be surprised if you find crew cabs for less money, comparable trim models of course.

I finally got a setup to carry 2 kayaks around. It's solid and I like that I kept them low, mostly behind the cab out of the wind.

Pointed them outwards, in case some jackass rear ends us and sends some kayaks through the cab taking our heads off!
