I have my iPhone BT'd and can play music and make phone calls. No problem. Is there a setting, tweak or work around that will let me access my contact list (phone book)while the truck is moving? Thanks.

    What phone you are using?

My iPhone can do that contact search and call history without problem!

IPhone 4s. My head unit does not have nav. I can access the phone book when I'm stopped, but as soon as I start moving it says it is not available. I've found list of articles on it, including another thread on it here. But no solutions yet.

You could do what I did with my pioneer. I used a toggle switch to act as the parking brake to override the system so I could daces things while not in park. I don't know if this is possible with the stock one.

I'm in the same boat... as near as I can tell, only the call history is available while in motion.

If your head unit allows you to do while stopped then the simple/cheap answer is to trick it through wiring. On the back of the unit they'll be a wire what's run to your neutral switch, if you simply connect this to and local ground it will make the head unit think you're always in park and so you'll have full access to unit all the time.

The same thing is done for units with nav/video capability when people want to run video while driving for whatever reason (yes there are times this actually makes sense..)

There are divides you can get off eBay/Amazon for cheap but they effectively do the same thing and this option is free.

NOTE: the "neutral switch" I mention here is not neutral in wiring terms but the physical switch on the transmission that let's functions of the vehicle know if you're in gear or not.

It's not actually looking for neutral or park on the transmission as I can be stopped in drive and still access the phone book. Actually I can see it at like 1 or 2 MPH. Any faster and it says it isn't accessable. The work around for me so far is to grab the phone and use Siri to voice dial. Sometimes my phone is not easy to get to while buckled up. I'll just learn to work with it.

That I've never heard of but the work-around should be basically the same. If you've still got the installation guide for the stereo, look at the wiring diagram and it should tell you what each wire is for. Obviously now I'm not goin to be able to tell you which one to look for, a little intuition will help here.

Could you list the model stereo?

Oh is this a function of the new (2012+) factory units? My '06 wasn't capable of connecting to anything until I modded it... And if it is factory, I'm sure they'll still be a way of getting around the issue that will probably be a simple wiring fix

Same-same for me. The base model factory Display Audio (not e-tune) unit. It works fine BT'd playing music and placing and receiving calls, it just restricts access to the phone book when moving. I can see my speed dials and call history when moving but not the phone book. I tried this - I stopped and opened the phone book so I could scroll through and then started moving. It closed the phone book and displayed that the phone book is not available while driving.

I just thought if there was a settings change I could make I would do that. If not I'll continue to use Siri for voice dialing if I need to. Thanks.

I can garuntee that it won't be a settings feature. The reason they do this is to make the phone "hands-free" and "safe" so the only way to get around it will be wiring it so it thinks you're always stopped... If it's not critical to you then ya, I'd just keep doin what you're doin.
