I am almost as old as you are and had a 62 Austin Healey 3000 Mk II with the 3 SU carbs and the manual over drive switch. Many good memories but our Tacomas are much more reliable. I was constantly at the junk yard looking for parts for the 3000. TW has an old person thread if you are interested. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/50-thread.171974/ I only went there one time as I like to interact with younger people in general, you being an exception. Well, maybe a few others.

Back on topic now. I really appreciate the many creative posts and ideas here. It has constantly put a smile on my face.

How I envy you. The only Austin healey I was ever in was the 64 ,3000. Wire wheels. Tonneau cover. Plastic side widow insert windows/ shades. No roll up. I think only twin SU carbs. Not 3 on that one. Could do 110. I know. My friends dad did it with us in the car. Low. Real bucket seats. Ouch. And peddles straight out as you sat on the floor. So low it was a knuckle dragger. You are a lucky man. They cost a fortune now at auctions. Record prices beyond belief. They race vintage cars not far from me at a small track built by the actor who's name just went out of my head. Steve mc queen. Great story. Dannyblues

I also had the wire wheels and plastic windows. The highest I ever had it was 125MPH but it may have been able to do a little bit better. I sold it just in time as the new owner was given a ticket for inadequate mufflers just a few weeks after he bought it. I only paid $600 and wish I could buy another one for the same price.

$600!!! I think one restored model sold at auction for over $1,000,000! One of those high class auctions. I believe it was a 64.

125 mph! That's really fast! I didn't think that model could go over 110 but as I said if I remember correctly my friends dads 64, 3000 only had two SU carburetors. The stock exhaust was a little loud but not crazy. It had a nice European sports car sound to it.

It's my favorite dream car. I'd take that over anything else ever made except maybe a real original 427 cobra.

I had a gold / cream 57 Chevy 210 w/ 283. 4 bbbl. Dual exhaust. Posi rear. Turboglide transmission. Stock. Fast. Beautiful

And a 64 Oldsmobile starfire. Metallic light blue with black roll and pleat seats. Slim Jim console automatic with tach and 394 ultra high compression engine w/ 4 bbl and duel exhaust. Fast after rolling a bit. Heavy. I did 135mph in it. Gas mileage was 10 mpg best. But gas was still 35 cents a gallon on Long Island. 25 gallon tank. Stolen. ( by friends I think who were afraid I'd die in it ) I was young drunk and crazy. Dannyblues

However in keeping to the thread:
I've always wanted a truck too but could never afford a second vehicle and a truck wasn't viable as my main and only mode of transportation. I was single for a long time and broke and commuted 31 miles to work from Long Island to NYC on the Long Island expressway. Needed an economy car.

This 2016 TRD is my first truck. I went out of my way for the manual transmission.

In jogging my memory I thought I'd driven manuals only for 29 years. Now I remember its 37 years ( with nearly a 2-3 interruption for an automatic Hyundai Sonata. ). Dannyblues

I had a 62 3000. It was my first project car. It had a 302 dropped into it with an auto trans behind it (who the heck puts an auto in a sports car). Never got to drive it though as I quit my job and had to let it go. only vehicle I have ever made money off of. Bought it for $150, sold it for $350. wish I would of been able to keep it but....

For your sake I wish you kept it too but you ruined it's possible value by altering it. Actually I've seen the 3000 with automatic shift and I believe they were factory. At least they looked factory but who'd put an automatic in an original sports car even if it came as an option?

I've seen an old Abarth that was modified with an American V8. Never saw it move. Owned by a drunken mechanic who just left it sitting parked in the street for very long periods.

Well at least you made a few bucks on it when you needed the cash. Shame though.

I didn't put the V8 in it. it was there when I got it (and a hack job). It was my wife's high school friend's car that they cruised in. We both cry just a little every time we see one but when I went from making 1200 bucks a month (1978) to basically nothing it had to go. That and the 56 Buick century two door hard top I had in High school are the only cars I truly regret letting go.

My sincerest sympathies. My guts would wrench too when I saw one go by. They are so rare now.

I lost a copper penny gold 57 Chevy with cream accents. 2 door hardtop. 283 v8 4 bbl with dual exhaust and posi rear. New turboglide transmission. First car with tubeless tires. Large white walls and wheel covers. It was fast and it was a beauty.

Last time I saw it , it was trashed. Found it junked and dumped under the subway tracks in a bad area of Jamaica queens. My dad asked if I wanted to salvage it but the only remaining tire was in the front and it was worn bald in less than a week. I said no. Inside it was all cut to pieces.

Found out from the NYC police it was used in a bank robbery as a get away car

Every time I see a 57 Chevy I'm both thrilled and sick. But I really only appreciate the original ones not ones with later model engines and other modifications. They're ok faster too I'm sure. But I love the original as it was

Wish I still had it. I guess it was the best car my dad owned but I kind of took over even before I had my license. I learned how to drive on it at about 12. At 14 I used to drag race it on my grandmothers country dirt road. Neutral drops on the turboglide automatic. Two wheel burnots even on blacktop. What a great car. Dannyblues

Hey easy boy. I still have that plexiglass over the license plates. I lived in NYC for some years and that plexiglass over the front plate let the drunken girl in front who was trying to parallel park in front of me know she went far enough when she heard the breaking plexiglass. Saved me many a bumper. Had plenty of extras on hand. Did get one ticket as the officer thought I was trying to disguise my plates. The cover was clear not tinted and most cops would let me go except that one. Still worth it. Bumpers are expensive

Where's the chrome curb feelers, dual antenna and fox tails.? The redneck rolls Royce and like Johnny cash he got it one piece at a time. Dannyblues
