I want to install a tonneau cover on my 2022 Taco with 6' bed. There is some kind of channel screwed to the truck immediately below the bed rails. They have notches inside the channels at regular intervals. The dealer told me it was some sort of accessory rail. It blocks access to the bottom of the bed rails, so the clamp-on tonneau covers won't fit it. Can anyone help me with this?

can you post a picture of what you've got? most of the tonneau covers just go directly to the accessory rail in 2 spots per side, and i'm not aware of any add-on that would block the minimal access needed.

also, what tonneau are you installing?

Previous post is a picture of the rail immediately below the bed rail caps. I was hoping to install a Truxedo Pro X15 tonneau cover, but it uses 3 clamps on each side to clamp the cover rails to the bed rails. I don't see a way to do that with the whatever it is rail installed below the bed rail cap.

That picture is linked directly from your email so no one can see it but you. Can you use the Upload a File button to upload the pic?

Are you sure you bought the right tonneau cover? Most (all?) Tacoma setups mount the clamps to those factory installed accessory rails.

Check the hardware that came with the cover. It should have all the stuff for mounting it to those rails. That's where it goes! If you don't have the hardware, call whoever you got the cover from and see if they can sell you the kit for tacomas.

Look into a Tyger Auto T1 roll up cover. Better mount system and it’s <$200

Thanks. The PDF of the installation instructions didn't show the extra metal pieces that fit into the accessory rails. I guess that I will get special instructions for the Tacoma install when I buy the cover.

I haven't bought the cover yet. I downloaded what was apparently a generic installation instruction sheet from the CARID website. The install instructions were on the page for the specific cover I want to buy.

The hard rollup tonneau covers are about twice as expensive as the soft rollups. Are the hard rollups worth double the price of the soft rollups? I have only owned two soft rollups.

I've always preferred the soft roll ups, I like the versatility when needing to load large items in the bed.

they tend to be a little more durable, and will roll up nicer. but to be more rigid, they need to have physically larger components which results in a larger roll at the front of the bed, which can impact cargo capacity.

for many, they don't like seeing the tonneau flopping around, but want more versatility than a fiberglass topper.

i went with a no-name ebay soft roll up myself, as i prefer to maximize cargo space, and it's only real job is to attempt to keep some snow out of the bed in the winter months.

I’ve not seen a hard roll up cover. I’ve seen a folding. They block the rear window when folded fully.

If you buy the prox15 I promise it will fit fine with those accessory mounts. As stated above, just watch YouTube videos for install and it’ll go fine… fits perfect with 100% factory everything; no adjustments needed.

FYI: If you go with the prox15 (which is a very good cover), some covers have had wrinkle issues… I found no good solutions online or in discussions with customer support. To actually fix it you need to *loosen* the cover the max extent possible to relieve tension along the length of the bed. Once that tension is released it becomes easy to pull the cover tight along the *width* of the bed, removing the wrinkles.
