Does automatic accident avoidance braking only work when the cruise control is on?

No it should work all the time. I would not go give it a hard test though.

I'm sure the Safety Sense is similar to my wife's '19 Corolla. I can assure you it operates independently from the cruise.

Thank you sweetie for the surprise demonstration a few months ago.

I've come up pretty fast behind parked cars to test it and it doesn't seem to be working.

    Advanced Cruise Control works fine.

I was driving on a 2-lane county highway in upstate NY a few month ago and came around a corner with a large dump truck well in his lane and me well within my lane when the pre-collision system BRAKE alarm sounded - scared the crap out of me. I was not using cruise control at the time.

I don't get people who park on the street if they can avoid it.

Running errands the other day it warned me as I was driving into the sun with no vehicles in front of mine. That gets the heart ticking when it does that. I've had false warnings before.

On that same trip it also warned and was applying the brakes when a car was stopping in front of me. I was already braking but apparently not hard enough for the computer.

It isn't a perfect tech and won't work for every situation. I'm betting it's erred on the side of not working over too many false positives.

Personally I like to pretend that it's not there. If it saves me, great. But it's not something to rely on, or test...

If she drives like my wife the demo was not truly a surprise. More of a SOP.

This is just fucked. I drive by looking where I’m going. Seams to have worked for decades.

If people want to put their nasty dorm room couch and old TV in the garage, just so they can escape the Dora the Explorer that's playing for the 28th time and piles of Legos strewn across a carpet that faintly smells of old milk, well, I guess that's not my life to judge.

My truck stays in the garage though.

She has this weird habit of glancing at you when she talking to you. I've told her for years.....sweetie, I'm literally 3' from you. I can hear you. Watch the road.

One day we rolled up on a Dodge Durango at about 40 mph. The car reacted way before she did. Dash lights and bells and the rig stopped it's self by the time she had her foot firmly on the pedal.

Too bad our '04 Sienna did have that feature. The receiver hitch on that Dodge Ram dually was not very forgiving.

She has gotten better over the years about it

This sounds terrifyingly familiar. I gotta ask, have you ever been the one driving through heavy traffic and gotten chewed out for not giving the in-car conversation your full attention that it obviously deserved?

Yeah, that was a fun discussion.:anonymous:

She's knows when I'm driving that I'm in a no-fuck-with-me zone. She lost her copilot license with me long ago

I can understand that. But usually there's still a driveway. Usually
