I have some input that may make you optimistic, but take it with a big grain of salt!

I bought my truck as a salvage title (was repaired before purchase), it’s just like yours but it had 75k miles on it when it was totaled.

Here is some of the info I was able to dig up on it before purchasing. The most interesting thing to me is the insurance estimated retail value vs the recovery cost. It was totaled by a difference of 118.92 cents. I saw this as a great opportunity to get a nice truck on discount, knowing I didn’t care about the salvage title because I was gonna build it up and keep it. The guy I bought it from paid 2650 at auction for it and put about 6k into it bringing it back to excellent condition. That 118.92 saved me thousands on purchase vs a clean title in the same condition with same mileage, and made the guy who flipped it a couple thousand.

I obviously don’t know what your numbers will come out to, but you MAY be presented with a decent check, and if the damage is something you can work through for the most part you could even buy it back, fix it up, and pocket the change for upgrades.

dont know where U are...........or the OP

true they will let U get personal effects

personal effects dont mean aftermaket parts glued ot bolted onto the vehicle

while 1st person anecdotal + fervor is always gospel

some impounds wont let U start to virtually dismantle a vehicle

what happened to Ur g/f yaris is Ur reality.

tho it May NOT apply EveryWhere ALL the time

Very true and I agree with you. All I can say is ALWAYS argue and push every point that benefits you with them to the *absolute limit* and research state laws on how the vehicle should be handled. As long as you haven't agreed to any of their offers then the vehicle is still yours. Research state laws on that.

And don't let them guilt you, regardless of whose liability it was. They may try. You paid for insurance as a service, get the full amount they promised regardless of whose at fault. You have no moral obligation to the insurance company.

The most accurate thing you can do on the internet is to go to www.kbb.com and see what they value the truck in your zip code. Should be a ball park figure.

Best of luck and hope you get a fair and reasonable value for her. Honestly everybody's experience is different, my older parents have totaled two cars in the last 2 years and have gotten huge payouts significantly more than the vehicle was worth-Bmw X3 worth around $11500-12k, insurance gave them 16k for example. I think this comes down to the area they live in and them having premium insurance for decades.

When i was in college a woman rear-ended my acura integra and totaled, their insurance completely screwed me and offered $900 for a car that was worth a couple thousand. I was able to get them up on price to $1300 because i never used their rental. However looking back, where the hell can you get a car for $1300? You can't. Tried fighting with them and had my dad call but they still just refused, said it was an old car and that if i didn't take the offer, then they wouldn't issue me a check. if this happened now, i would force my insurance to call and work out a real world number.

    This is good advice.
I've also found that whatever their offer I tell them I have to think about it and I don't call them back and they usually call back in a week or so with a better offer.

so statefarm does market value in my area and my taco was deemed a total loss, got 14615. they did not mention kbb value only market area value...however they did do comparisons with other trucks in el cajon and victorville ca and those trucks had over 200k mi (mines had 110k mi and was in the sf bayarea)!! i didnt push the issue because i only paid 12k for my truck and did not dump any money into it besides oil changes.

well off to look for another 1st gen! who has one for sale??? in nor cal preferred. the cash is inbound...

    Congrats on the good check!

I’d seriously consider reaching out to a couple collision shops with as much info as you can and see what a real world fix might cost ya.. if you can buy it back at auction on the cheap and get it fixed at a decent cost you may come out with the same exact truck and a lot of cash to play with. Food for thought.

I am in the insurance game and 99% of the time this is not how that works. If that is what your agent told you make sure they send it to you in writing, like right now.
Usually you need to tell your insurance company (not just the agent) what mods you have and what the cost is. That may have an impact on your premium.
I have found the best thing to do with older modified vehicle like ours is to get what is called a stated value policy. It may cost you a few bucks more but in the event that your truck is a total loss you will know exactly what you will be getting paid. If your company doesn't offer this, shop around to see if it makes sense for you.
