Usually you need to tell your insurance company (not just the agent) what mods you have and what the cost is. That may have an impact on your premium.
I have found the best thing to do with older modified vehicle like ours is to get what is called a stated value policy. It may cost you a few bucks more but in the event that your truck is a total loss you will know exactly what you will be getting paid. If your company doesn't offer this, shop around to see if it makes sense for you.

This is damn informative! I didn't even know such a policy existed.. do all the big name guys offer this? I just crossed over to Farmers

I only have experience with 2 of the big name guys and only one of them offers it. I have a buddy who is a Farmers agent and he and I have talked about this before so I am pretty sure they do. I know Liberty Mutual does, I think State Farm does as well. It's worth a few phone calls to check.
