I managed to scratch up my new rig by attempting to remove bird poop from the hood without realizing the hood wasn’t completely clean to start. Anyways, I managed to remove the doodoo but paid the price by putting a bunch of small scratches into the hood. I didn’t realize my mistake until the hood was dry. Bonehead move.

What would be the remedy to help lessen the appearance of the scratches? (looking for a more permanent solution than wd40, ect). Thanks in advance for any advice!

Not sure about rubbing compound because to alter the clear coat this early on doesn’t seem good for the long haul.

If you're a perfectionist, try to find a mint hood froma totaled truck at a pick n pull.

Just looking to minimize the scratches without having to replace the whole hood. Scratched area isn’t much bigger than a deck of cards. I get your point though.

Thanks for the product recommendation as well.

Meguiars ScratchX on a foam applicator pad for starters. That might be all you need. Don't use too much product on the first passes. Use more product on the last passes.

That should do a lot toward lessening the appearance of the scratches. Might take a few applications. Polish, check your work. Polish some more, check your work.

ScratchX is a super-micro abrasive (uniformly sized particles) as opposed to diminishing abrasive. So you can stop anywhere in the buffing cycle.

I realize most products are used to smooth out the scratch area, but is there a product that can fill in the scratches themselves? I’m new to this.

Wax will fill it in, albeit very temporarily

If your not interested in getting a dual action polisher and all that's involved. Than as was said above Scratch X will get decent results by hand.
    That's how I started out.

I've never seen a glaze or wax do much in hiding scratches. You need to find a product to level the clear coat around the edge of the scratch.

If they are light --- wax jobs over time will help and then maybe a little scratche remover .

Those should come out no problem. But you're going to need a high speed buffer. Train yourself how to use it first or have someone experienced do it. Good luck.

You want to smooth out or therefore take the scratch out. Fillers are temporary.

What in the world were you cleaning it with?

I was using a microfiber towel but somehow it left these scratches. The truck hadn't even had its first wash before this happened.

First go over it with a rotary polisher with a wool pad we with a course compound I use the Rupes Zephir Gloss Coarse Gel Compound . Then go over it with a orbital polisher to remove the swirl mark. I also use the rupes lhr 21es with the yellow pad which is the fine pad with the Rupes Keramik Gloss Fine Gel Polish .
