    Hello,
Today I accidentally turned on my rear differential lock before leaving my driveway. I drove with it on going about 45 mph for 5 minutes and making a few sharp trurns before I turned it off while fully stopped after noticing. Did I do any damage to the differential?

As long as you don’t see smoke or smell burning you’re good I would be more concerned about driving in 4low which I’m assuming you did unless you have an aftermarket locker or did the grey wire mod

    Nm I see you’re a prerunner

No, just some increased tire wear.

If you can go rockcrawling on sandstone in moab with an overloaded overlander... you are going to be fine with some street time.

Dangit, I was trying to make it in the thread to say "In before 'Part out' "! :D

(Yeah you should be fine, especially without having to worry about 4x4)

Lots of Toyotas have welded diffs or spools on stock axles. They daily like this. It's fine.

Especially because the tires will slip if the axle starts to bind too much. Usually a chirping noise.

Enjoy the benefits of a Toyota truck. They are durable.

I thought you had to be in 4lo to turn on the diff lock. If that’s true then you pressed the button but didn’t engage diff lock. You would have had a blinking red 4x4 button icon on the panel.

No way you were going 45 with 4lo engaged.

I thought it automatically disengaged at speeds over 10 mph.

Not something I'd do on a regular basis anyway. Long term you'll wear out stuff prematurely. But for what you did I wouldn't worry about it.

Nope, if its locked its locked.

OP was it a flashing light or on solid on the dash? If it was flashing it was never actually locked.

probably not. Next time you change the gear oil it’ll be a bunch of crap coming out or look fine. It’s either gonna start acting up now or it’s not.

and, there’s used working diffs out there for a whopping 50 bucks.
