    Hey taco lovers.

I'm a new taco owner. I did something really dumb yesterday. Wasn't fully paying attention and accidentally backed up my truck into my other car behind me (its alot lower than the truck). We were parked on the street so i didn't pick up any speed. just rolled into it.

I looked at the bumper...looks fine. TINY scratches on the middle/bottom plastic part of the step. No paint rub. Looks like 1 side (corner bumper cap) is now misaligned and pushed in more than the other side. Not sure yet, but ima measure. I might be tripping too and overthinking it.

I'm like trippin and overthinking a lot right now. Do you think I messed up the frame at all? Can I realign the bumper/bumper caps if it is misaligned? I have sensors too (I know....stupid on my part), do you think that would damage the sensors at all? I didn't look liek it was anywhere near touching the sensors. But thought I would ask anyways.

My answer to all is, I don't think so, but i also don't know how durable the truck really is since I'm a new tacoma owner.

Please help to rest my mind x_x

    Pics?

It's plastic so i'd imagine your fine. Lots of guys have misaligned bumper caps from the factory so it probably looks like most other Tacos at worst. To mangle the frame, you'd have more than a scratch.

The factory bumper is plastic and very deformable. There is zero chance your frame is damaged from what you described.

I couldn't believe it when i first saw those rear taco plastic bumpers....how cheap can they be? I miss that good old heavy chrome steel rear bumper on the tundra. I once backed into a 4 ft steel pole guarding a natural gas meter....didn't even hurt the bumper....sure let me know i wasn't going to backup any further though.

hate to break it you, but all cars are basically plastic pieces put together. Not much from a step up of legos.

I accidentally hit my utility trailer while backing up my boat/trailer in the back yard. (Sucky little mirrors) The bumper had a crack and dent in the middle of the end cap. Looked minor to me. After bringing it to the insurance adjuster it was estimated at $2100 damaged. Brought it to a private auto body shop he found additional damage, (bent fender, broken BSM) and reported it to the adjuster. The total to fix this "minor" fender bender is now $3075. The bumpers are now 4 piece plastic junk.

I smacked and bent my 2010s stock bumper off road so many times and backed it into a loading ramp real good, just ended up being a good excuse to get a new high clearance bumper! People have backed into my '08 truck in parking lots more than once.

These trucks are WAY tougher than you think and they'll take extreme abuse and keep coming back for more - if pushing the bumper a little would take out the frame, well then it wouldn't be much of a truck, let alone a Toyota truck, then.

    You're good, man.

Yeah...helps to have the tailgate closed.:frusty: I'm still tryingi to get use to these mirrors compared to the tundra which they were more actual. Tacoma mirrors appear objects are way closer than they actually are.

Try to pull the that bumper cap back into its normal position if possible. I would go to autozone and buy some scratch removal cream and buff out those scratches. Sounds like very minor damage that is DIY fixable. God bless OP.

Take a look. I think i'm just over thinking now after reading the comments. BUT the bumper caps are 100% not aligned lol. Dunno if this is factory or after the fact that I backed up into the parked car behind me.
