The tiny little bit of damage my rear bumper encountered was a cracked wing and a slight deformation on the black step. The repair bill was going to be 900 bucks so I had insurance cut me a check and bought a steel off road replacement bumper. To say I was disappointed with how my trucks bumpers held up in a very minor collision is an understatement. Next up is an all steel front bumper as well. Can't have some little old lady accidentally push her shopping cart into my truck bumper and total it.

I don’t think it shifted them. Or at least not that I noticed. I literally tapped it straight on and it only hit the black plastic. Nothing painted

OP, you need to chill out. Your truck's fine.

Here are some reasons why your truck is OK:
    1. It takes a lot more force than a low speed tap into another car to bend a frame.
    2. There is some substantial metal behind the plastic bumper caps to protect your frame including the hitch receiver which is one of, if not, the strongest part of your truck.
    3. It sounds like the car you hit is on the smaller side. Small cars' bumpers are made mainly of plastic so it wouldn't have even transmitted much force into your truck in the first place.
    4. Tacomas are infamous for misaligned bumper caps from the factory. The picture you provided looks perfectly normal and in fact looks more well aligned than some brand new Tacomas I've seen on dealer lots. Heck your bumper looks better aligned than the bumpers on my truck (which has never been in a collision of any kind).
    5. It's a truck. It can take more of a beating than you'd think and still be OK.

If you spend any time in this forum at all you will quickly find that people wheel the crap out of these trucks and hit, bang, and scrape stuff all the time and their trucks are still in most cases completely mechanically and structurally sound.

Save your self work, and the stress of having it potentially happen again and invest in a steel bumper

Did the same. Was messing around in the woods. 3500 bucks later I have a steel bumper. There's NO WAY you messed the frame man.

Dude, I can’t wait to see what your insurance quotes you when you have your powder coated steel bumper scuffed in the parking lot. “Disappointed with how my powder coat held up is an understatement.”
Your rig pines for minor damage (patina) to show its use value! Either that or have it wear an N95 bra front and back. That’s hip too these days.

First off, I had just paid my 38000 dollar truck off in full a week before it got hit when someone backed into it in a parking lot causing 4500 dollars in total damage. I think I have a right to be disappointed with how a minor collision affected my brand new truck. It had be be towed away because it pushed the front end far enough into the wheel well that the tire rubbed. Now my brand new vehicle has a remark on Carfax so it's worth less.

Second I'm going to paint the new one it with Steel-It so I can touch it up myself because having the body shop screw it up 3 times and still not have it right is an even bigger disappointment.

Third, I will feel a heck of a lot better being able to give as well as I get in the parking lot.

Congrats on paying it off! Just ribbing you a bit to help me cope with how many dings and scratches I’ve put on mine unintentionally.

I backed into a post protecting a fire hydrant while making a 3-point-turn this morning... Cracked the chrome end cap on my '18 OR Inferno.

I too, was disappointed on how easily it got damaged.

Honestly wasn't that big a fan of the chrome, and was thinking about replacing it with matte black to match the wheel flares, but after reading, may replace with a steel bumper...
    Decisions decisions decisions...

I may just do black aftermarket in the short term, and mull over the steel in the spring...

Nothing like driving forward while looking sideways and jacking around with something on the passenger seat. She also just looks like somebody I'd want to avoid in my life

I forgot to ever post a picture of my Craigslist find C4 Fabrications bumper I had my brother fix a cracked weld (He wound re-welding the whole thing as it was less than stellar welding) and then had the bumper itself re-powder coated. I am into it about a grand.
