The chart has a temp range in it, only ones with temp limits are 10w-30 and 15w40, the rest have the same temp range as 0w-20. Theres no way that s 2gr-fks in Mexico has different engine architecture to accommodate the "thicker oil". Its the exact same engine with the same specs.

There is some difference in cold cranking with 0-20 vs 5-20 when it’s below zero. At least with the 4.0 in the 4Runner.

the only reason the American manual is different is because of VERY small differences in mpg for the different oils, in order to maintain steadily increasing EPA emission standards. All the oils are expectable per Toyota recommendation, driving over the border doesn't change the truck.

And the example of the racer boi who modified his 86 and then 86’ed it against the red line for half an hour only to have the Subaru engine explode into 1 million pieces has nothing to do with the dealership using the wrong oil as a thin excuse to not cover the warranty repair when they were half a dozen other better reasons to deny it. The diesel fuel one kind of made me laugh.

I believe that if you had a Tacoma engine fail on 5w-30, and Toyota blamed the oil, you could go to court with the Mexico manual and win by saying that Toyota does in fact recommend 5w-30 for your truck.
