Accidently shifted in to neutral while driving.

Hi, I was driving my friend around and he thought that the shifter had some sort of button. Because of this he accidentally shifted it in to neutral for a very brief second. He doesn't know if it went fully in to neutral but the image of the shifter came up on the dash. I was wondering if this could cause damage.

I do it all the time, as it's the only way to get into 4x4.

@Foxface918 , I've many a time shifted into Neutral while driving. Did it to help explain what a rev limiter was to my wife awhile back. Neutral, floor it, bounces off limiter, let go of gas, shift back into gear. Thinking back, we were even taught to shift into neutral and use parking/e-brake to stop car in drivers-ed. We all had to do this a few times. Car was no worse for wear, and it had seen hundreds, if not thousands, of drivers by the time I got to it! lol.

No I've not seen this happen to Aisen model automatics but have seen it happen to many other automatics such as a newer GM 4L60E . I personally had a TH 400 transmission let go on me after shifting into neutral at 25mph . I coasted to a stop after hearing a grinding sound . Went to put back in gear and it felt like the e- brake was on

Had the car towed to a shop and found out the planetary carrier assy grenaded . The mechanic asked me if I was coasting in neutral as this is typical damage

Going into N is fine. My dog has bumped it into N a few times. You can even go into reverse and it just turns on the camera (so I've seen a video on and read about - I don't dare try it myself lol).

Lol I am that guy. My dog sits on the center console on the way to our hikes sometimes and she went to put her face by the vent at 50mph and threw it in to reverse. About had a heart attack haha.
