Long ago someone tried to give me a check for a car..even at only several hundred I refused it. This is before ATMs were really a thing.

I had people try to bargain me down in the original contact with cash. My usual response was "I only take cash but if you have something else in mind let me know (just to see what the reply was)..and I think my price is fair because I've looked at similar ones that are higher".

Much wisdom between the general state of life plus your situation in particular.

What did you list for and what was the offer, if I can ask?

Never really thought of those things but I haven't really sold a car in about 15 years, except summer 19. The fellow was a dealer and didn't even put it in gear before paying me full asking so wasn't a concern.

Listed for 23k, offer was 18k.

I had another ping on FB for 20k cash, but it went like this:
Him: "You take 20k cash for your truck"
Me: "I'm willing to negotiate. Would you like to know more about the truck?"
    Him: "Location"

It was at that point that I ended the conversation, or lack thereof. It didn't feel right at all, and if someone can't engage somewhat cordially and conversationally, well, I'll wait for the next.

Hmmmmm, seems like a perfectly normal question???? With communications now condensed to abbreviations, acronyms, and shortcuts, you didn't have a "conversation". Maybe it's just me, but I don't think there is any substitute for actually "talking" with one another. I guess I'm just old.

Sorry to hijack this, but, my last post reminded me: In another life, a long time ago, I put myself through college selling used cars at a mega dealer in San Diego. If you wanted to sell cars, you had to do this.....
"Get them to test drive to keep the sale alive". If I got them in the car, I sold 8 out of 10 LOL

That's kind of my point. I asked a specific question, and a logical one-- would you like to know more about the truck? His response a) ignored my question, and b) is already answered in the advertisement itself. Conversely, I've had several inquiries to the tune of "hey, I'm really interested in your truck. Can you tell me about accidents, owners, usage, etc...". Those inquiries quickly lead to offering phone numbers to exchange and then begin a real dialog.

This was also a Facebook Marketplace inquiry, and his profile page didn't help, either.

In my view negotiations on FB or any social media is a waste of time. And I just don’t respond. I always list the vehicle with good pics and price. I always say if interested leave your phone number and I will call you.

The people that are really interested will call, the low life’s won’t.

remove as much add ons as you can, sell those separate. Then advertise. For ref, I paid 22k for my 2014 DCSB v6 4x4 sport with 69k miles. I guess I got lucky.

I'm leery of KBB. They were purchased by COX Enterprises, which owns COX Automotive. COX Automotive offers services to car dealers.
Lower values would benefit the dealers.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it. o_O

Not sure if you listed it Or Best Offer as well, but either way IMO 5K off is a lowball almost to insult. Any countering back and forth at that point, I'm guessing not.

Strange convo on the 20K but I guess at face value I'd not be sure what to make of it, the fact that you mentioned the other factors would make me also not want to waste time.

    Fanny for every seat man..

Selling cars on FB has been a total waste of time for me. Half the listings appear to be scams (“2004 Tacoma double cab 4x4, 68k miles, $1000”). But on the seller side, FB messenger is tailor made for low ballers and resellers to easily spam sellers with shit offers in the hope one sticks.

Surprisingly Craigslist is still relevant for cars and I seemed to get way more legitimate inquiries.

I know you probably don’t intend it but it sounds like you’re encouraging insurance fraud.

I’ve been quite successful selling vehicles on Facebook market place for some reason. There are a lot of pieces of crap that try to low ball but it’s usually pretty easy to pick up on the serious buyers. At least from my experience. (I’ll keep my fingers crossed.)

If you’re agent totals your truck totally at his own discretion does that constitute fraud?

I thought jokes were suppose to be funny?

Either way I was shedding light on what you said could easily be misinterpreted which are against TW rules. Just looking out no need to have an attitude.
