lol @ whippersnapper02. I guess with all the clamed gains of those mods added, your truck will fabric fuel while rolling.

I've put acetone in my gasoline. I didn't notice any improvement. It won't hurt your anything and if anything will clean some of the crap from your engine.

It was more of a hassle to measure a perfect 110ML and add without spilling on the paint.

we should all donate to a fund for someone to try this in an area where ethanol free gas is not difficult to find. that way if the fuel system needs overhauled, the fund will be there to pay for it. by the way, how does one go about finding fuel content info in their area? my local station used to label the 89 with a 10% sticker but no longer does.

It tells me to do far more than half the shit I do to my truck. More like 99%.

What, you think gas mileage is magically increased 50% by adding acetone to your fuel? You know what, you go right ahead. It's a big conspiracy by big oil to keep you paying at the pump.

I swear to god, some of the questions that get asked on this forum.

Raise your hand if you think fuel injector cleaner is good buy as well?

when did i say it will increase by 50%? you made a jackass comment so I made one back too you.. But from the sound of it your just a prick.. he was just asking for input.. not some smartass..

I think if acetone were safe to use long-term and increased mileage even half as much as is portrayed, every gas station would be rushing to put it in their tanks and over-hyping it as a miracle cure-all for global warming, the global economic mess and jock itch.

IMO, either it doesn't work as billed or it has detrimental effects on engines/fuel systems to the point it would be a financial liability... otherwise someone in this industry would be doing it

I used to think the same but tested out some with Techron. I track my mileage REALLY closely (check my Fuelly) and noticed a moderate but real improvement after using it. Granted, this improvement was just a correction of a slow decline in mileage observed in the months before I used it. It didn't boost my mileage above what I was able to get when the truck was newer, just put it back at that point. I can't say if I chalk that up to dirty injectors being cleaned or what... all I can say is I saw slow decrements in my mileage over time that immediately reversed after using the FI cleaner, returning me to normal MPG.

Here's a run of 15 tanks with FI cleaner added in the middle.

    21.9 mpg
    21.2
    21.6
    22.5
    21.4
    21.4
    21.0
    22.0
    21.4
    *FI cleaner added*
    23.1
    22.5
    22.9
    22.5
    22.3
    22.7
    22.8

I'm a firm believer in the placebo effect and try to guard against, but no one's immune. I felt no difference in power, "responsiveness" or any of that other crap... I just drove like normal as much as possible and got measurably better MPG after using it.

This is quite the controversial topic. I've personally added an ounce of acetone to every tank (10 gallons) in my carbureted 1989 Beater Toyota Corolla and noticed about a 3-4 mpg increase, with absolutely no adverse effects in the 5 months I did it.

This was back in the day when I was driving a 1989 Beater Corolla and had very little money and did all sorts of ghetto mods to it. This was also a $500 car and I didn't care too much about its longevity.

The Tacoma, however, I have not tried yet. Maybe I will someday...

10 mpg increase on a truck getting ~20mpg highway is 50%. Math is fun.

My co-workers love me, because they have as little tolerance for dumbasses as I do. Yes, I am an asshole, but I'd rather be a prick than a moron.

    Enjoy your fuel additives.

A moron I used to work with had been using acetone in his gas for a few months before he got fired. He could never get more than a 2mpg gain from it-that could have been changes in traffic patterns or the difference of having the wind at your back instead of blowing toward you. He was an a$$ and got fired for being one. He was the type of guy that would re-find Jesus every few months and push it on all of his co-workers and customers. (I am a practicing Christian, but can't respect the pushy types) Anyway, his "scientific analysis" was that the acetone reduced the surface tension of the gas so it atomized better. Whatever, I guess if you buy pure acetone from the hardware store it will cost you less than stp, lucas, or what ever mouse milk you buy from auto shack. A buddy once had a customers that would cut off after getting warmed up. You could watch the fuel pressure rise up to 100psi and it would cut off from being too rich. He checked all the return lines for kinks and routing and changed the regulator. After that pulled the tank and found some real smelly stuff. The customer confessed to adding like 10 bottles of stp.

edit-i guess the much higher voc was causing the rise in pressure when that stuff got hot.

Yeah. I've noticed whenever he and I end up in the same thread it turns into a big ol' gayfest.
