Condolences to you. You inherited a fine machine. I came to my Tacoma from my wife in February, when she was gifted it from her parents who can no longer drive a manual. 67,000 miles and all scheduled maintenance at the dealership where they purchased it brand new. At 70,000, I started a clean slate with all fluids changed, and I mean all, greased fittings, MAF and throttle body clean, and complete air intake clean, and new plugs. All OEM parts. The rig purrs. 20.5 mpg highway, sheer delight. Frame Rust control is my ongoing challenge here in upstate central New York, complete fluid film done and will be done at least twice a year. WELCOME TO TACOMA!

    Drive it.

Figure out if you want to keep it around more than 3 months. Don’t spend any more money on it until you know you want to keep it. If you spend $2,000 on it now and decide it doesn’t work for you that doesn’t change its selling value.

I inherited an 09 dclb just like yours with failing paint. Hood, roof, and top half of the driver side was all damaged. I decided to paint the whole truck since it only had 45k miles. Worth it imo.
