Active Rear Bumpstop, GM Retrofit

While planning my build I was figuring in a u-bolt flip and some Superbumps or Timbrens. Then I came across a thread where someone used GM truck bumpstops to basically accomplish the same thing. Has anyone tried this on a 3rd gen? If it works it not a bad way to save a few bucks.

Maybe @12TRDTacoma can give some input. It would be greatly appreciated and may even start some multigenerational bonding.

 

While I have never been a huge supporter of Dorman, the best thing I could tell you is to buy a set and touch test them. They need to feel like a firm but pliable sort of foam/ rubber is the best way I can describe it.

I no longer rock those, but I do have to say when I did it was the equal to landing on pillows whenever I did hit them. They were fantastic and if I didn't wheel as hard as I do I would still be rocking them today.

Needless to say I still strongly recommend them.

What did you switch to and why?

 

Hydro bumps, because I wheel INCREDIBLY hard, so if and when I do hit the bump it acts like a secondary short stroke shock.

Another thread w the gm bumps,
I used them on my 92 pickup. Work great.
Not familiar w 3rd grn taco rear but as long as if has the little hoop to mount them. You have to drill an extra hole for the locater pin.
Or grind it off and a pad for them to hit.

Well I got the Dormans mounted up. They are more of a firm rubber than foam but softer than the stock bumpstops. Since I got longer 5125s maybe these will keep the shocks from bottoming out. I ended up not doing the flip so I still need to come up with some sort of strike plate.

Leafs are CS047R that I found locally never mounted for $350. I removed the top overload and got 2” of lift.

 

How did these end up performing?

 

@bravinci bumping an old thread that I see you never got a reply too. I’m about to do this install on my 3rd gen and will update how it goes/rides if you haven’t already done it

 

I did but unfortunately my shocks are too short so I'm still bottoming out on my shock so I still can't tell you if they work good or not lol
