My low fuel light consistently comes on with ~3 gallons still in the tank.

    Yep.

There's a couple hundred threads here if you use the search function that pretty much all come to the same conclusion. If you drive a Taco, you have a 3 gallon reserve and that's when the light comes on.

It's pretty consistent across the board. Regardless. Year, make, model, trim, etc. Toyota seems to like the 3 gal reserve and uses it a LOT in their consumer-grade cars and trucks.

Yep, I took a trip with my cousin one time on this route, got gas in Kingman and started trucking for SD, decided to take that route instead of going to the coast and dropping down, about 50 miles from home the lift came on and the 2 stations we stopped at were closed, so we got to vine liquor and put 17.9 gallons in it there.

some of you are too emotionally invested in proving yourself correct.

My fuel light doesn't work. I have zero gallons left before it comes on I guess.

Complete OME kit w/ 881's and dakars. All-Pro Sliders, CB, HAM Radio and various other minor stuff.
One thing to remember is that with in-tank fuel pumps, the gas also acts as a coolant for the pump. Consistently running it near empty can kill the fuel pump. For me, I was always taught to never let it get below 1/4 tank which takes about 12-13 gallons to fill up.

I also carry a jerry can on wheeling trips "just in case..."
