Well fuck me. Power steering pump took a shit. Horrendous whine coming from it and power steering goes in and out. Was a real pain in the dick to do a u turn.
And then later something fucked happened in the front diff. More terrible sounds on acceleration and deceleration. And the fucker won't come out of 4wd. The transfer case unhooks the front, but the ADD is not letting go. Too cold for this shit.

How is the FJ case going to help if the transfer case is working fine but the front ADD won't let go?

For reference, truck is in park, ebrake on, jacked up only the front of the truck and when I spin the front tires, the front driveshaft still spins freely.

You may be able to turn the switch to 2wd, turn the truck off (wait a few minutes), and then restart it. Mine would drop back to 2wd doing so.

Tried that. Many times. I did every trick in the book. I'm fairly confident the actuator is fucked, but the noise coming from the front is super unnerving. It's like a gerbil is getting fucked by an elephant.

Wait the ARB still uses the add actuator? I was always under the impression that would go away once an arb was installed. :notsure:

I don't know exactly what that would sound like, but from my imagination, it would be horrible.

I'm fairly certain it's the pump. Unloaded there is no whine at all. I flushed and bled the rack and the old fluid was fuck nasty. Metal shavings and strait black fluid. Cold weather is not nice to power steering up here. Last few days it's been a high of 20's.

So I discovered if you cycle the key and the 4wd switch, the xfer case will actually do what it's told. The front hubs stay locked, but I can cycle between 2wd and 4wd if I cycle the key and ignore the flashing light.

Tried that. I pee on everything as a first fix...as you know.

    Nope

    ^what he said

    It's painful as shit
