How did the pinion weld to the shaft? A steering rack isn't exactly a high speed/high rpm/high temp piece of machinery....or is it? Weird.

Yes. Two separate issues that happened within the same drive. Unrelated other than it just happened within a few minutes of each other. Cold weather plays hell on fluids. Everyone goes through power steering pumps up here.

I haven't seen the actual carnage, just the report from my diff and driveline shop.

Yes I have an external speaker for the HAM radio.

Shit happens. Part of the game I play. I'm over it already, just waiting on parts for both issues at the moment.

Subbed for how you will bullet proof the rebuild. I always learn new tricks from you. ;)

Nothing to bulletproof in this situation other than checking fluids more often.

That moment when 2016 stopped thinking about how many celebrities it could take and starting thinking about how many diffs it could take before the end of the year.

Well the weather and roads have not been nice to deliveries up here. Everything has been delayed. I did get the new PS pump however. Flushed all the old shit fluid out and got the new pump in. Also installed an in-line filter with magnets inside it on the return line in hopes that it keeps the fluid a little cleaner. Power steering works again and no more whining from the pump or rack.

Diff shop was still waiting on parts from UPS. With 80 shutdown with the last storm and the mudslides from the fucking monsoon...they are a bit behind. And now the industrial area of Sparks (where their shop is) is completely closed off due to the Truckee River flood. Last I heard parts were supposed to be here today, but that didn't happen. At least one problem is fixed.

Toyota. I researched everything I could find and they are all total shit. The OE pump is the smartest kid with Down Syndrome.

Also, truth be told I didn't want to gamble with aftermarket or rebuilds. To remove the PS pump with a supercharger means removing the fan, fan shroud, and all of the secondary pulleys for the s/c. Pain in the ass.
