What numbers do you guys see on the stickers on your showroom stock OR AC trucks for actual payload? I assume it's less than the 1285 number given on the Toyota tech spec page.

These are the 3 jamb stickers on my '21 TRD OR AC (net payload is a bit over 1100 lbs):

Thanks for posting the info! It's quite a bit less than the quoted number. Do you have a lot of options? My SR5 DCLB's payload number is only 960 I think which is also quite a bit less than Toyota's number on their chart and it doesn't really have much in the way of optional equipment.

The DCLB would have the least payload in the entire Tacoma lineup.

As @shakerhood says, the DCLB has the least capacity 'cuz it's got more built-in weight.
My '21 TRD OR AC has a slightly reduced capacity because it's a 4x4. Minimal options of any significant weight. I think the 41 lb reduction is from the bed mat + TRD Performance Exhaust. Don't much care about the minor reduction - more concerned about towing capacity and GCVW.
EDIT: Keep in mind that the marketing folks write the brochures and quote the specs very carefully - you'll often see the phrase "up to" in front of numbers like the payload capacity and towing capacity.

2000 lbs easy. But that's just me... not good at following rules. Obedience is not my strong suit.

When I tow it'll be a landscape trailer + tractor = total weight around 3500 lbs.

Maybe I misunderstood. I was referring to to payload in the box of my truck. Obviously my trailer loads are at the max. My trailer plus tractor is around 5500 lbs.

I have a new 2021 SR Double cab.. My payload sticker says 990lbs..
No GCVW listed but I've read it's 11,360lbs. (this right????)

Towing boat to lake I stopped at a scale.. 6960lbs total. That was fully loaded on way to lake. So boat and trailer weight is about 1880lbs..
I get a little confused about what to consider weight being towed vs tounge weight that counts as payload.
Also, seems like axle weight of trailer should be the number used when figuring towing weight.. Not total dead weight of trailer as it sits disconnected from tow vehicle.. But as I said, I admit being a bit confused.
But with the weight of my boat I'm obviously no where near reaching towing / payload capacity.

Total dead weight of the trailer is what the allowable tow weight is based on. Tongue weight, probably around 150-200lbs in your case, counts against your 990lbs of payload.

    I understand...
But the tounge weight does not count against both tow and payload weight right? I know it's all GCVW.. But if the boat on trailer disconnected from tow vehicle is 1880lbs.. And 150 lbs is tounge weight.. That means
150 is counted against the 990lbs payload and 1730 is the towed weight correct?.. Not a big deal either way in my case I'm not pulling a 6000lb trailer, but still would like to know.
Also is the 11,360 GVCW correct?
I can't find it listed on any door sticker.
    Thanks for the info!

It does and it doesn't. The total trailer weight counts against the total GCVWR. The tongue weight counts against your payload rating which is part of the GVWR of 5600lbs. In theory you could run out of payload/GVWR before reaching maximum trailer weight and GCVWR. For example, a 5500lb trailer with 15% tongue weight would max out the trucks payload (825lb on the tongue plus a 170lb driver) but not max out the trailer weight or GCVWR.

150 pound tongue weight reduces your payload by 150 pounds. The towed weight is still 1880 pounds. GVW is still 6960.

In summary, tongue weight counts towards payload (and tongue capacity), total trailer counts against tow capacity, and total trailer plus total truck counts against gross combined.

When some genius at Hyundai claims the truck like thing they make has a payload of over 1,500lbs and my tundra is at like 1200 or less, I disregard those payload stickers entirely.

Thanks for all the replies. These payload numbers seem pretty sad. Wonder why they're so low?

It's a smaller truck, with lots of weight being used up by the double cab set up I guess.
I'm happy with it, I bought the base SR, zero options on it, going to add /mod to it as I go along. I got it with the thinking I'd never tow more than 3000lbs or so. After pulling my boat I can't imagine pulling a 5000lb+ trailer over any significant distance.
With just my 1800lb+ boat I drive a long country road about 15 miles, lots of rolling hills.. Even with ECT button engaged it will search for gears, especially with cruise control on..speed about 65mph

I'm sure you're right and probably made the right choice to get the SR which would be the lightest version. I don't tow anything but might be hauling stuff in the bed so I'm thinking of trading to the AC to get a higher payload. A Ranger would be good but would worry about reliability.
