It's been standard in Canada since the 3rd gens came out, I agree that it will be standard in the US too.

I think there is some sort of CIA funded disinformation campaign occurring at Toyota. Are they giving wiggle room on the configurations in case they can't find enough parts from the extra and unused parts warehouse out back?

I have no idea where that info came from but there is no 6 speed manual offered with the 2.7l. The 2.7 will only get the 6 speed auto.

It came from the Toyota.com website - the section on Toyota press releases. http://pressroom.toyota.com/
Type in Tacoma in the search box on the top - the document is titled "2018 Toyota Tacoma Product Info" from October 25, 2017.

The document indicates on several pages that 6sp manual on the 4x4 2.7l. Even gives mpg at 17/21/18 (6-speed manual 4x4)!

I have an actual order form from the dealer for the '18 (no I won't post it). It shows the SR discontinued and the SR5 with the auto only.

Don't believe me, go to your dealer and order the 2.7 with a manual transmission.

I don't doubt you. Just seems Toyota screwed up on either the pressroom document or the dealer order form. :notsure:

I know when my wife bought her Volvo S60 the official Volvo website and local dealer said the 2017's only came in 1 type of engine configuration which she didn't want - so she bought a 2016 off the lot which had the engine she wanted. Lo and behold 2 months later, Volvo changed their mind and offered the 2017's in the config she wanted. Not a big deal, as the other parts of the car hadn't changed, aside from she wanted to buy the car on European delivery which would have been a big perk.

I have no explanation why Toyota has put out different information. Maybe they will change there mind at some point and use the manual with the 2.7. I know in Canada it's a popular choice.

When will Toyota have the 2018 build options up on the Toyota.com web site?

Probably not until we see them released to the public would be my guess. You would think that the web site should have been updated by now.

I know I go to the web site and you can still build a 2017. I don't even think you can order a 2017 at this point. You have to buy what they have on lot.

They aren't going to start building 2018s for two more weeks, so that will probably be when the release the information. Also, my local dealers still have a big inventory of 2017s to clear out, so Toyota probably doesn't want to push the 18s yet.

I think they may have a glut of 2017's they still need to push through. Lots that haven't even hit the car lots yet.

You can only build what exists in inventory in your sales region.

So if you want a 2017 TRD Sport in Black, and there are none at dealers in your area, then Toyota.com won’t let you build that truck with that color.

It isn’t a build website, not to the extent most assume anyway. It’s designed (and limited) to put people in dealership sales floors. That’s it.

It is not a configurable, customizable build spec tool.

Careful, your treading into a sacred area. LOL.
Some of the reasoning posted for Tacoma drum brake use doesn't seem to add up. Why does the Tundra have 4 wheel disc brakes and the Tacoma doesn't, good question though.

Now, if it was something like Toyota is in say 20 year contract to get the unit price down on each rear end built - changing the contract to offer rear disc brakes cost x amount of dollars, then that would make more sense --- to me anyways.

Agree for $40K truck it should have power seats and a vertical height adjustment. Maybe the new safety system absorbed that budget.

 Hopefully this gets cleared up soon. My info says the SR is still available. 7162, 7164, 7186, 7514, and 7594. None of those have a manual transmission, but they are SR models.
