Short term anyways is what I meant. Yes electric/ electric hybrid- but for the next 2 or 3 generation s until Ford or another big player slaps in mass production hybrid or electric plug in systems, I think we'll see turbo before electric.

Think about how few hybrids they sell on Camry , Accord etc. And they have the technology of those best sellers down.
But no one wants it. Then ask the people buying trucks if they want it....

I hope that’s the case, because I get the impression that all electric is coming faster than I expected. I moved to a small town in the middle of nowhere, and our gas stations have Tesla pumps. We don’t have shit here. But we got Tesla pumps. As far as trends go, people eat that shit up blindly. I hate to admit it, but I dated a hippie nurse who fancied herself a social justice warrior. In bed once she quietly mentioned how my “giant truck” must be terrible for the environment compared to her Prius. The truck in question sits lower than my 3rd gen, and despite what long travel and fiberglass may do for looks, is way fucking smaller than it seems. I reminded her that it’s a Toyota 4 banger... didn’t matter. She still believed it was a gross polluter. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but whether it’s turbos or electric I kinda don’t care anymore. I’ve got my trucks and I’m not going to participate in the buggering.

Also I’m kinda confused why you quoted me about turbos. I’m all about arguing against turbos but I don’t remember talking about them

You guys think the 2018 with manual transmissions will still have all the active TSS benefits? I was test driving the new Subaru's recently and while their "eye sight" (equivalent to the safety sense) comes standard on their new cars, it doesn't on vehicles with manual transmissions.

Don't know for sure. When reading Tacoma will have TSS in the past, I thought the very same thing knowing eyesight didn't come on Subaru manuals (crosstreck). I know someone who recently bought a new outback and I drive it for a bit. I like the safety features in the outback a lot so I'd say props to Toyota for getting the system installed (not sure of all its limitations either versus the eyesight Subaru has).

I would think TSS doesn't come in manuals though like Subaru (given it does certain functions automatically - hard to complete on a stick shift)

I have been holding back from upgrading from my 06 TRD 6speed to the 3rd Gen's as I wanted a noticeable difference in options and tech, which the recent (16'-17' manuals didn't really have anything ground braking (like Crawl Control that the Auto's got). If they get TSS, I would now be willing to upgrade. So I did more research into it, this article states the manuals would get it. (http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2016/0...mergency-braking-standard-on-2018-models.html).

And this youtube vid shows it some of the TSS benefits on a new model manual transmission Camry (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHHduiWXPNo), did not see the auto braking work though.

If you understood the torque and acceleration of electric motors, you would probably want one. I'd take an electric Taco any day. I can live without gas fumes if I get all that torque.

What has everyone seen as the time line for ordering a vehicle? I talked to my local dealer and they told me from the day I put my deposit down it would take about 30-40 days to show up at the dealer. Does this sound right for Toyota or a little off? I always thought it took longer.

Toyota has been playing around with EV for a long time and even had a long go at it from '97-03 with a Rav4EV https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_RAV4_EV. IF and this is a big IF at this point; My opinion is that Toyota could pursue a Tacoma EV in the access cab SR 2wd configuration where the rear of the cab would store the same batteries used in the Prius and it would have a top speed of 60mph with a range of 300 miles. Kind of the parts store parts runner special.

I wonder if it depends on the dealer then?

TSS-P does come on the manuals as well. The only thing that is different is the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, it will shut off if too low or too high of an RPM.

Here is the link to the 2018 Owners Manual:

Glad to hear it is coming on the manuals, great on Toyota for passing on the benefits to the entire line up, guess I might be upgrading!

Blindly buying shit is what humans do best. Lol.
Concept before actual proof. I just like talking turbos lol. No reason for quote.

Ford tells everyone the eco boost is better mileage than v8 for first 5 years. And it is. But it was marginal at the first stages, and the cost difference for Eco boost engine offset the savings anyways. But now over 75 % of f150s are sold with eco boost. The point is, for trucks I think forced induction is more do able at this point to meet demands of a truck, save fuel, and not have to design an entirely new drivetrain and vehicle for electric.

Dont worry ! Combustion has its place flr now! I'd say save the electric shit for the hippies and sedans!

On the market as it were
Ranger's received disk brakes in 2011 when they got stability control... you can be darn sure the new one will have them too.

Drum brakes are a letdown, not really a deal breaker but they are sure not a bright spot of the truck. I have ran disk rear brakes on both compact and fullsize trucks of different breeds and IMO they are making excuses, even living on a gravel road (and driving a fair amount of gravel) with mud tires I have NEVER had a problem with rocks getting the brakes and it is much easier to get mud out of disk brakes. The only sand I run on is what they spread on the roads in the winter.

Buried in sand to demonstrate crawl control both axles have the same sand exposure and there were no rooster tails to transfer sand from the front axle to the rear. And if there was the tire would have blocked it anyway.

On a positive note, I do like the look of the darker grilles. I could never get the silver one on the TRD Offroad to really mesh with all the black trim.

Absolutely, bigger dealer you will get it faster as they have more allocations. I also believe it has to do with what is being manufactured as well. I don't believe yota just inserts you "requested" model into the production line, but instead ensures your dealership gets the model you requested when it's in their production schedule.

    Thanks.
Wonder if the TSS system will be rock solid the first year out on the Tacoma or will it have growing pains being it's the first year? I like the idea of having TSS. Although, a local dealer just got in a 17 model 6 speed manual double cab trd 4x4 in a color I like which is very tempting.

I didn't plan on doing anything with a new truck until Dec or Jan. Course I been shifting gears for the last 25+ years too so part of me wants a break from that and go with Auto (especially in bumper to bumper traffic) - but part of me also thinks I'll miss shifting now and then too since I done it for so long. When I buy a new car/truck, I usually hold onto it for many years. Maybe grabbing a new 17 now many not be a bad idea, if and that is if the first year of this TSS doesn't go well? If the TSS is a smash hit and flawless, then the 17's become less desirable and not hold its value as much. What I have not seen yet is the MSRP 2018 cost increase due to the TSS yet. Decisions Decisions.

anyone on here received a price from any dealers on 18 TRD OR's? just left a place that quoted $39k for TRD OR short bed, including the premium package (moonroof & JBL), trying to get a good sense on the deal. this has yet to be negotiated...!

Refer to the above link. Though this is in Canadian $, it's coming from a actual salesman who posts regular on the forums.

Will give you a general idea on the cost increases for the TSS. I'm guessing $1100 - $1400 USD.
