I have an acute vibration "buzz" felt at 2,200 RPM in cab seats and noticeable visually when looking in the rear view mirror. At 5K mi, the truck was modified. The truck drove flawless until buzzing vibration started at 22K mi. Manifests in 2H and 4H. The gearing/speed are irrelevant, it's specifically at 2,200 RPMs.

I've ruled out the tires and installed a new u joint by professional off-road center. Also had gear oils drained. Oils drained clean, no shavings or deposits. Still have the problem. They are now recommending I take to my dealer suspecting transmission issue. I do have 100K mi warranty and to date have had no TSBs done.

Thoughts on what this issue is and if dealer is the best route? Dealers … they keep us gambling and getting a winning hand sometimes seems very time-wasting. Would like to hear from you to give me some ammunition I can pass onto them.

    Truck Mods at 5K mi:

    6" ProComp Suspension Lift
    AirBags
    AFe CAI
    TRD Supercharger
    Gears 4:88
Tires 35 x 20 Micky Thompson Baja ATZ
    Rims LRG 20 x 9 (Model #104)

That would be speed dependent.... OP claims its based solely on engine rpm. Check for any dirt / mud in the crank pulleys .

Correct. Is noticeable at any speed when engine RPM hits 2100 to 2300 RPM. I check everything I know of. Pulleys look clean. My final straw...it's sitting down at the dealer right now and they are looking it over. I'll post the result in case anyone else has this problem.

Yes, but mostly in the seats. It's also a fine buzzing vibration...blurs my rear view mirror rending unviewable.

    Me also.

I'd bet money they are going to bail due to the gearing change or tires and wheels. I really couldn't blame them either.

Oh and I love that kid in your signature! Cute as hell. Yours?

Stopped in nuetral and rev; feel nothing. 4x4 system is flawless as well. Case Oil/Differential front and rear both changed. Clean as a whistle!
True, I modified gears. They don't know though but I know this doesn't mean they can't find out.

UPDATE: Toyota Dealer was stumped. Agreeable they know there's an issue; they felt the same thing. They just don't know what it is. At time of purchase, they sublet the lift to DSI/4Wheel Parts so there is 36K/Powertrain warranty on all that. The master tech believes it's come down to the drive-line. Have appointment to drop off tomorrow at 4WheelParts in Mesa, AZ. I will keep you all posted on what I find out. I believe things are narrowing down to a resolution.

15K ... already ruled those out. They are in great shape, and balanced well. The vibration definitely isn't a "tire" type of feel. Watcha thinkin?

The tires may be balanced perfectly, but are those wheels Lug or Hub centric? I looked at them on line and it doesn't say which hub or lug.

It needs to be hub centric or it could very well cause vibrations.

    Edit:

Never mind I found the information. Are you using hub adapter rings? If not you should be. Those wheels have a Center Bore Diameter: 108 mm the Tacoma takes a Center Bore Diameter: 106 mm. This allows too much slop in the wheel to Hub alignment and vibration without the proper hub adapter ring. In this case a 2 mm ring.

If that was the case, wouldn't it vibrate consistently at any RPM? Why just 2200?
I can certainly bring this up to the shop that will have my truck tomorrow. They did the lift and tires, etc.

No, actually some vibrate and some don't... It is just a suggestion as many have had their vibration issues go away after installing hub spacers.

My wheels are the same. I have to carefully hand tighten two lugs, while wiggling the wheel, to make sure they are perfectly centered on the lugs. Otherwise there will be vibrations at different rpms or speeds.

This is good to know. Dropping off now to lift shop. I'll hold off until they check all the "major" stuff. If they come up with nothing, I'll drop these suggestions. I'll post resolution when I have one! Thanks for all the help!
