My question is for anyone using the adaptive cruise control. When I have it active it functions correctly, but it has an audible clicking noise. It sounds like a button clicking in and out to best describe it coming from the left hand area of my dashboard. This happens when the truck starts to decelerate or when it accelerates back to speed. I can hear it with the radio on. I’ve driven other brands with the feature and they make zero noise. I haven’t had the opportunity to drive another Tacoma. Does anyone else hear this noise? Thanks for your input!

It's a solenoid used to actuate the brakes.

So I assume you are hearing the same clicking noise?

In the box behind the rear view mirror there's a tiny guy with a pair of binoculars, a stopwatch, and a tiny gas pedal. I'm guessing they ran out of the digital stopwatches when they made yours and issued an old timey analog.:notsure:

Actually I've never noticed this noise. I dunno, is that a thing with others?

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to know. From the Jeep to the Mazda I’ve driven their acc make zero noise so I wasn’t sure if normal for the Tacoma.

What model do you have? I have an SR5. I use it ~80 miles every day and haven't noticed it.

18 off-road around 20k miles and it has done it since day one. It’s very noticeable on the two lane I drive where people constantly vary their speeds. It’s a similar sound of you clicking in and out the auto high beam button.

I wonder if it has to do with you having a different brake booster (I think) than the SR/SR5/Sport, and that's why I haven't noticed it on mine.

Yes, exactly as you describe. You can feel the truck brake immediately after the click, not just stop accelerating.

I have the same truck as you; OR, same year, same miles. Not hearing any noise. But I'm old so there's that.

Sounds like we have the same noise. As you said it clicks and the truck decelerates it clicks again and the truck accelerates.

I’m not one to play the radio at high volume or sometimes at all during my 1.5 hour daily commute so I unfortunately hear it over and over.

This. I have an OR too, and it coincides with cruise actuated braking.

Without being an expert, this is probably the best explanation. The OR and Pro models have an additional brake booster that isn't present on the rest of the models.

Is it additional or just different?

Different, since we have an extra space in the engine bay where yours sits.

I think additional would be the best answer to your question. It is an additional booster / controller that enables functions like Crawl Control and hill-start assist, which aren't on the other models.

I was under the impression it was completely different, not an addition. But what the fuck do I know, I'm just some bum on the interwebs
