Add-a-fuse location other than 15 amp lighter fuse

I'm going to add a quick charge USB port in an empty switch location, probably this one:
    https://www.amazon.com/Cllena-Charg...rds=tacoma+usb+port+add&qid=1597705011&sr=8-3

If I'm reading the specs on that correctly, the quick charge port is pulling 3 amps and the other one is pulling 2.4.

Normally, I just use and add-a-fuse and tap it into the 15 amp lighter, but I'm going to be using the lighter to charge a Goal Zero 500x. The GZ car charger has a max of 10 amps which would put me over, unless I'm missing something. That's highly possible. So I was wondering if anyone had success powering a USB port with any other fuse in the cabin. I don't have a sun roof but I can see a 20 amp fuse in that location. Would that be one I could use? I've also considered just chucking the GZ in the bed and using the inverter while driving but I haven't tested that yet.

Thanks. Pic shamelessly stolen from another thread.

You can buy a 20 amp add a circuit, it comes with a thicker gauge wire

That's now how that works buddy. Op, I would change the GZ location. Seems to be the big ticket item that draws the most.

@Skydvrr Yes, It's probably best just to use the inverter in the bed for a long term solution. I'll probably just put a 120v outlet in the cab to make things easier in the future. The car charger for the Goal Zero has a 5amp/10amp switch. I contacted Goal Zero today and they pretty much told me that they had seen some odd behavior when it's set to 10amps, and they recommended just keep in on 5.

@caribe makaira Thanks. I think I'm going to try and use P Outlet 2. I could be wrong, but I've read that P Outlet 1 is the cig lighter and P Outlet 2 is for a second 12 volt outlet, which my 2019 doesn't have. If it does, I've never seen it. I think earlier models had two 12 volt outlets. So if I don't have a second 12 volt outlet, does P Outlet 2 have anything else going to it?

    Thanks.

I assume poutlet1 is the dash and poutlet2 is the center console but haven’t yet tested to confirm. Planning to redo mine with blue sea usb sockets and run new 16 gauge power from the fuse box via add a fuse. If you don’t have 12v in your center console you can look to see if there is a hidden plug under your cup holders? I’m only doing new power leads because I’m an idiot with nothing better to do once kids and wife are asleep.

I’ve also assumed the poutlets are dedicated circuits because they wouldn’t know what you would plug in. Seems like Toyota is too smart to put anything else on that same fuse.

Your year might have these USB instead of the 12v socket in the center console:

I took apart the center console to change/add USB charging. Looking to put a PD charger for rear seat passengers. Was going to disconnect the factory one in the center console and use the wiring to power the new USB charger. It is a 2x45 watt PD charger.
So probably at/or over the limits of what I should connect to the factory harness. But, those wires going to Poutlet2 are mighty small. How do they rate those for carrying 15 amps? I am going to run new power wire myself.
Edit : I just realized the last post was from 2 years ago...sorry about that... anyway, in case it helps anyone, here is the link to the USB charging port I installed in the rear...

I ran 8 gauge power from the battery and switched it with a high current relay triggered by poutlet1 to a blue sea compact fuse block. That gave me 8 circuits to work with. That covers seat heat, USB power in the dash and rear of center console, my Germes unit and my front camera. But it does take up a fair bit of space.

Prior to running a direct battery feed I used the trailer brake controller as a +12v battery power source.

Details in my build thread if you are interested.

I also did not like how thin the wire is for these outlets and wouldn’t want to push 15 amps through them.

I use this for a PD port in the back of my camper. It's a simple circuit, the same you would use if you wanted to power a light bar without the expense of an SPod or the like. I use a relay that is powered with an add-a-fuse to a fuse that is off when the ignition is off and ran the wires to the back and fused it with a 10 amp fuse. I used either 12 or 14 gauge wire. This way I can recharge my camera batteries on the move and not worry about it draining my starter batter when the truck is off.
