you should try an easier project first before you dive into a sunroof mod...Like putting a scoop in your hood.

I have had sunroofs and I try to stay away from them now. Had 2 friends who had sunroof problems and they were VERY expensive to fix and they still had problems.

Both were out of warranty Toyota's and they work on them by the hour and I think the minimum going rate now is about $135.00 an hour on the low side.

It's basically a 2 day job + parts, headliner had to come out too. IMO, some things can't be put back to OEM standards when repaired.

IF, you have to have a sunroof, get a simple manual popup or pop-out with no electrical or without lots of mechanical moving parts ... FWIW.

PS ... Triple check the weather stripping too.

Watch the Care Care Nut Garage/AMD video he made doing a repair on one of the "full roof" panoramic ones. I think it was a seal that gives up and practically everything has to come out to replace it. First step was remove the headliner which costs huge $$$$ to replace if you crack and break it. Don't recall if the price of the job was given, but it must have been an extremely expensive job to R&R and fix that thing. There are actually two videos about sunroof issues: one that is about a clunking noise the roof makes that spans about 10 years worth of Camry's, (Title contains: ...."Took 10 years to fix"... and "Watch this before you buy...") about a Panoramic Sunroof leaks: Both nightmares to correct.

Wonder what the failure rate is. I've had sunroofs on nearly every vehicle except for 3 pick-ups since my 87 Accord and haven't experienced any issues.

Sunroofs, factory or aftermarket are the source of more problems than they are worth. Never known anyone that had one that didn't have issues with it.

I had a pair of half sunroofs I got from the junkyard. I put them in my astro van and they leaked so bad I had to keep a umbrella with me when it rained.... never again will I put a sunroof in a car.

And as if having the one in the '99 4runner leak wasn't bad enough, the grease has set up and it won't open so I could clean it out. ( motor works) AND ! now the mice have built a condo up there and the interior cover won't slide back more than half way....

The one in the '99 RAV4 opens but apparently trying to stuff weedeater line down the drain line to clean it separated the drain hose...
