Very very dumb question that I'm afraid to ask, but I'm a ways away from being able to actually verify as I'm held up on parts to get my trans back in (so..I have no starter at the moment). Tonight I finally finagled the tow package relay and harness in and buttoned things back up minus the lower dash panel/switches to test, but did not get DRL's when I keyed on; but does the engine need to actually be running (making the R in DRL rather literal), or should they work with ignition on/brake off?

For better or worse, the Tacoma is the only vehicle whose DRL's I really like, and I've gone so far as to disable them in my daily...so I'll admit I've never paid the tiniest bit of attention to how they typically function.

Thank you for the sanity check - and again for the prior help!

FWIW, I have a 2010 DCSB with factor tow option that I switched out to have DRL. Only had to replace the relay and the jumper and all worked fine and currently still does 6 yrs later.

This is an odd one. Finally got it back together enough to fire it up. Had the brake on and no DRL. I eased the brake off and saw that sweet, sweet amber light fire up my garage wall! Except now the brake will not turn them off. Dash indicator light for the brake works as it should.

Another data point is that turning the parking lights on via the headlight switch does not dim them (and I forgot to check what happens with the headlights on now that I am typing this). Any ideas?

DRL will turn off after engine off. No action after releasing parking brake and setting it again. It only activates them.
Parking setting also does nothing, only low beams turns them off while engine on.

Hmm so this is normal operation then; I was under the impression pulling the brake one click (or enough to activate the switch) would turn them off - but it only interrupts when starting the engine with the brake already on? Interesting.

I'll probably wire a switch in then, was averse to it before but I already broke the "keep it absolutely bone stock" seal with the FJ transfer case conversion, hah..
