Added OEM skid plate. Looks great and not too cheesy!

I love the way bull bars look, but I dont want to be shunned from Taco society by having a non functional damage multiplier on mt truck.... 8*p Anyways, I wanted to decorate my front end a bit and still have some functionality. I saw a stock skid plate on a newer Tacoma the other day and just had to add one. Makes me feel better when I hear small branches and such scraping across the bottom. I did quite a bit of looking but managed to find a dealership on Amazon selling them for 175 with free shipping. If you are going to buy one, SHOP around as price varied as high as 289, other places wanted 50 bucks shipping.

That's too close to the cost of a burly aftermarket one for me.

    Edit* looks good, though! :p

If you want an alternative to bull bars take a look at Avid Off Road's front bumper guard. I have one and it looks great with the TRD skid. Plus, @brandonaz is a great guy and (obviously) a TW member.

I want one but not for $175

I painted my big clunky stock skid plate instead.

Mine came stock on my 08 and I am pretty happy with it. It does limit some bumper/bumper accessory options, but hasn't affected what I wanted to do. Can take some decent hits too, I've skidded accross stumps, rocks, hit full sized ginormous birds at highway speed, broke some brush, etc. No real issues.

best pic of it on my photobucket, but from a few years ago. Still similiar setup.

I agree that it's a nice looking skid. I've had to bend mine back on more than one occasion so an aftermarket skid is in my future.

I do not see the problem? Is the issue using the OEM TRD skid plate and a bull bar? It works FINE! I use Westin bull bar and OEM 2006 TRD skid plate. You just need about an 1/2 inch to 3/4 inche spacer on the bolts. Fits fine and no rubbing. Is the issue that you think you will be shunned by having a bull bar? I recently had an 18 wheeler blow a tire on the interstate in front of me and i hit the retread at 70MPH, all it did was ding the stainless steel 'skid plate' part of the Westin bull bar. Years ago, a lady in a Mitsubishi gallant pulled out in front of me when I was going 50MPH and i hit her broadside and the only damage was white paint on the outer tube my Westin bull bar.

When I bought my Westin 10 years ago it was a REAL Westin 'Kangaroo Killer' bull bar made in Australia :) made of steel, not a pretty one you buy at the local 4x4 shop for a couple hundred bux that is for show! They were called 'Kangaroo Killers' for a reason! Trucks run over kangaroos at high speed all the time in Australia :)

LOL! AUSSIES make really good stuff! My front springs and shocks are from Ironman Australia also :) What I do REALLY want is one ofth e ASSUIE bush winches!!!!!

I cant find anything under 400, then add on 100 bucks or so for shipping. This was a OEM part, free shipping and no worry about it smashing my bumper or grill in the event of a low speed impact.

But.....once the car gets older and Im less worried.....I WILL get a Bull bar dammit, I will get one!

Thicker than the stock plate, and made of steel not aluminum. Right around $220 I think from Bullet Proof Fabrication. I know, crappy pic.IMG_20160807_193150.jpg

You're not looking hard enough then! I just got an RCI scratch and dent IFS skid for $190 shipped to my door. The reason it's "scratch and dent" is because they drilled the wrong mounting holes up front, then corrected it. Two extra holes to save $70? Sure!

PS anyone in Pensacola, Im selling it because I'm trading my truck in.

You're probably looking at the "splash guard" as Toyota calls it. The skid plate goes on top of that

I actually prefer the look of the OEM plate, and the color worked well with my truck. I know there are many other companies out there but they were all too expensive for my tastes. Honestly, I also dont need anything overly aggressive as my truck only goes off road on gravel trails and into overgrown fields and such, nothing crazy. I dont want to be a mall warrior!

If you are patient you can watch CL (or Kj in Canada) for one.. I've seen multiple listed for $100 or so.
I ended up getting mine for $40.. Can of paint and a new tow bracket and bob's your uncle..
