This weekend I added a dash cam and ran a wire around the headliner/A pillar over to the fuse box. I used the fuse slot between the 3 and 4 slot which seems to work, but the cover says to only use designated slots. Can anyone chime in on whether this is a terrible idea or not and if I should move it to another fuse slot?

If it has juice then I'd be fine with it. Just make sure you test it to see if its keyed or not.

After you get enough accessories you will want to build a auxiliary fuse block in the truck, rather then having a bunch of add a fuse, in the box. I got tired of all the extra wires and such this past summer and built a fuse panel by the fuse box under the hood.

I tested all of the empty fuse slots the other day. I only found one that had power with the key on. The others didn’t show any voltage either way.

Just run devices with minimal current draw through that location unless you know what the factory wiring is rated for. And use the smallest value fuse possible (Check dashcam wattage and divide by 12. Then multiply that value by 1.25 and select the closest value fuse.).

+1 for the add a fuse pigtail. I’ve been running my dash cam using this method for a year and a half with zero issues
