Whoever told you that can fertilize my garden with that b.s. info, my 1st gen wasn't set up with tow package & all I had to do was bolt in the hitch, get a light kit for tail/brake /running lights on 20' Aljo trailer I tow & the most important thing IMO is getting the aftermarket trans cooler (Hayden) because the A340F auto in 1st gens. will get smoked in short order if it overheats (& it will)...

How would I go about verifying the tow package by eye? The dealership sent me a spec sheet which showed:

F TO V6 Tow Package: Class-IV Towing Receiver Hitch, Transmission Oil Cooler (Automatic Transmission Only), Engine Oil Cooler, 130A Alternator, Heavy Duty Battery, 7-Pin Connector w/Converter, and Trailer Sway Control

I have no clue what one looks like, but I'm sure you can google it and figure it out pretty quick. I dont plan on towing anything soon so I'm not too worried about it.

Look for this little donut under the oil filter. Its the oil cooler(standard on tow package from factory)

    IMG_2445.jpg

Edited to add: tow package trucks also come standard with a group 27F battery. These are the first two things id check that are easy to spot.

I find it crazy that having the tow package isn't as simple as looking for a hitch. I get you can add aftermarket hitch adapters, but if it has a tow package it should definitely come with a hitch!

If you don't have a hitch then you shouldn't have a tow package IMO.

As far as I understand if you have a tow package you have the hitch receiver - but having the hitch receiver does not mean you have the tow package -

Exactly. OP sounded like he doesn't have a tow hitch, but reading it again he doesn't specify so I guess he does have one.

So my wife went out and took this photo of our oil filter area, which is attached. Looks like an oil cooler, yes? And to clarify, the truck does have a hitch receiver. Thanks for all the help you guys...

Yes that's an oil cooler. Do you have the 7 pin wiring connector? It's in the back close to the hitch. Folks rip it off regularly off roading.

    very easy to tell...

is there what looks like a mini-radiator in front of the regular radiator? that is the transmission cooler, if you have that you have the tow package

If that was your package sheet on the first page, a six speed manual transmission would not have an transmission oil cooler. That feature is reserved for automatic transmission models.

That is @dmarsh15 - I have the auto - and my sheet says tow package - but I have no tranny oil cooler that I can see.

Our Tacoma TRD Off Road came with the V6 Tow Package. It lists the coolers and a Trailer Sway Control. I have tried to find information on the sway control, but haven't been successful. Can anyone enlighten me?
