who has experience adding AC to to a late 90s Tacoma. My truck the most basic model available.

After we got the truck running my mechanic said that it is not to difficult adding a stock AC system to this truck and everything would bolt on. The more difficult part is finding all of the components, compressor, switches, belts etc...... I came across a great article explaining the process in detail. I just spent quite a bit getting it running so spending another 4-5 hundred isn’t catching my appetite. But I live in Phoenix and driving it this summer will be miserable. Who has experience doing this ?

    Here is the article

finding a wrecked Tacoma with a complete system is the way to go. I did factory dealer installs back in the day when AC wasn't installed on the assembly line. There was Toyota equipment and aftermarket crap.
You are more interested in the hard line sets and the factory evap box than the compressor and the condenser, these are easy to source in the aftermarket. You will be taking a chance using used stuff if the system has been sitting open to the atmosphere. If you find used stuff and she has pressure in the system then you should be OK. Dont let the oil leak out while transporting the bits. The only issue that I can think of is getting the hard lines in through and around all of the things on the P/S inner fender and such.
