i have a 2012 tacoma with the regular unit that does not have the screen. as such, my rearview camera comes up on my rearview mirror. my headunit is having issues and am considering getting an oem unit to replace it so i can have the rear view on the screen. i've found a few new and used ones for a very reasonable price (less than $150). i like oem stuff and the look since its usually less flashy than aftermarket. i'm curious if anyone knows if another oem unit, such as the 57053, if installed, will display the rearview when i go to reverse? this is assuming if installed correctly. details on connecting the camera in my situation to a 57053 unit would be great if someone knows how.

    any insight much appreciated.

    thanks

Def this thread. With your 2012 a 2014 and 2015 unit will fit plug and play. I do not believe the 2013 unit you can get to work (I had that and it was not setup for it). forgot which one the 57053 is.

I have had most of the HU's 2013 - 2015 reg, plus and premium. You can also swap in the 2014/2015 steering controls. You need to run an extra wire or 2 but def an upgrade from the 2012-2013 controls.

this is exciting news. my ultimate goal is to add a front camera so i can view on the screen when off roading. this way if i'm traveling alone, i can go forward with more confidence without a spotter. thanks sooo much!

Oh yah that’s clutch. There is a setup, I saw a GB for it recently. It’s plugs into existing factory harness and you can enable and switch via steering controls. Doesn’t seem to work with my new setup. Still trying to see if I can get it to work. If I recall I’ll post it but by easiest way to set it up.
