Removing the airbag and replacing the clockspring is pretty quick and easy. I've had to do the clockspring twice in the last year as I replaced the intermediate steering shaft and screwed up and let the clockspring spin completely, ultimately tearing the ribbon.

I was un-aware/can't recall there being different clocksprings pinned for CC or not. If there is, then I got lucky. If your clockspring isn't pinned for CC, then likely to not to be wired to the ECM or Instrument panel/gauge cluster either.

My Tacoma was not pre-wired so I had to connect everything from Cruise Stalk -> Clockspring -> ECM -> Gauge Cluster -> Clutch Switch, etc. and add-in a t-tap by the fuses. My first Cruise switch was also new and faulty/never worked. Bought a second after double and triple checking connections and it's worked ever since. I'll try and dig up photos/notes in the coming days from when I did the install back in April/May to help.

I also used alldatadiy.com and other wiring diagrams for pin-outs/referencing, etc.

How do you remove the airbag?

This guys video shows ya for the most part what needs to be done. I've never had to use a steering wheel puller for my tacoma, or the others I worked on. If you're replacing the clockspring entirely don't worry about the steering angle sensor mentioned in the video. I didn't do this with mine, just installed all new closksprings.

    Part number was 84306-04080

I also have a bare steering wheel, no controls, etc.

I have a base 07 Taco w/ Manual transmission and I added cruise control
I had to add the CC stalk on steering wheel,
I transfered the ground wire which plugs to the back of the air bag
and since mine is manual I added a clutch swith, ( that was a pain )

I did NOT have to replace my clock spring

I have two videos of how I did it
here is a link to the first one, Part A, Part B is the video after this one
    I hope this helps :)

Hey, I don't mean to "argue"
I have an 07 base and did not have to swap the clock spring,
the pic you posted shows the emply spot where the cruise would be plugged in,
it would have 3 pins, the top one that connects to the back of the airbag ( this is the horn wire)
and the other two bottom ones are for the cruise control.

I have two videos showing how I installed CC to my base truck

this pic shows the female n male plugs

Here is what it looks like once it's connected and the new cruise control bolted to the steering wheel :)

Thanks - it's good to know. There is another cruise control thread that was running almost concurrently with this one that I didn't see before I started posting to this one. In that one, a member stated how he had to replace the clockspring in order for it to work (along with additional wiring). I think I recall that his was a 2012 (mine is a 2013) - note the thread I copied the clockspring pic from is NOT the one with the poster stating he had to replace it in order for CC to work.

I found the other thread here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/serious-about-adding-cruise-control.689878/

A member named HAVOC is the one describing how he had to replace his clockspring.

It APPEARS that the bottom line is one won't know until you get in there and see which clockspring is installed?

I'm going to do mine regardless, since I really miss driving with CC, so it's just a matter of whether or not I also have to add the price of a new clockspring, which I a little pricey, but one that I'll dish out for CC.

Do I need to do anything under the hood, or is it all in the steering wheel?

Is this seriously all I have to do? Just this one wire and nothing needs to be done under the hood?

Also, I can’t figure out how to get the airbag off; Is it those two star-shaped screws on either side?

From what I've been reading, IT DEPENDS. There seems to be some kind of difference in the clocksprings in some models/years. On another thread, member HAVOC stated he had to replace his in order to work (he has a 2012 base I think). There seems to be two versions of clocksprings available for my year as well (2013) - listed as 'w/o cruise' and 'with audio controls,' which I assume means also with cruise.

Looking at the images of the two, there seems to be a difference in the pins where the CC plug would go into the clock spring. HAVOC stated he not only had to swap the clockspring, but also run additional wires to the ECM as his harness was also missing those.

No, clutch switch is only if you have manual.

You MAY need a different clockspring as well (as well as wiring from the clockspring to ECM) based on HAVOC's experience. I noticed that Rostra's instructions makes a differentiation in certain years as well.

When I do mine, because I'm doing mine no matter what, I'm going to just get the basic parts, open it up, and make a determination at that point whether I need a new clockspring.

How much does a clockspring cost?

It depends on if you are one who HAS to go OEM, then on top of that, if you HAVE to go new. New OEM (at least for my year) runs about $200 msrp. I probably wouldn't go used myself given the constant churn a clockspring goes through, but would consider aftermarket at a little over $100.

Hmmm..my 10 had a clockspring recall so it was replaced around 3 years ago. Curious what one they might have used..

No sir, but like you I'm contemplating. If I have to buy a new spring though, not really worth it

I don't use it enough to make it worthwhile if I have to do that. Mine is 3 years old or so and I don't drive it that much presently, plus even when life is normal I'm not on the highway regularly
