I think the ECU is programmed differently.

Read this, it was in the description of that cruise control part......

Testing for prewired condition of vehicle -
The 2016 Tacoma no longer require horn wire relocation
1.Place a small towel on the steering wheel just below the airbag.
2.Locate access holes on either side of the lower steering wheel cover. Take a Torx T-30 and unscrew the airbag mounts.
3.Lean the air bag forward gently onto the towel but DO NOT UNPLUG IT.
4.So if you look at the third and fourth picture on the eBay listing, referring to the empty plug location in the third and the white 4 pin plug shown in the fourth pictures , the bottom 2 pins are empty. Take a piece of wire, or maybe an unbent paperclip, and with the key turned to the 'run' position, momentarily short the two pins to each other. If this makes the dash indicator light up, you know you're in a vehicle wired for cruise.
So to recap. Expose the empty 4 pin cruise harness connector location. Turn the key on to the run position. Carefully, momentarily short the two bottom pins together, taking care not to bend the pins. If your truck is wired for cruise, this will turn the indicator lamp on. Shorting them again momentarily turns the indicator back off.

Just about all of these trucks use the same wiring harness, meaning the plug will be there, but other items to make a feature work are not.

Guy said if you short the two wires and the cruise light comes on the dash your good to go and short them again to turn it off.....

I did this stuff for years, buying the cheapest truck and then adding options to it. I now buy the truck I really want. Trade it in for an SR5. ;-)

I did the same with cars.

Not worth it in the end. once you start doing all the add ons yourself its so expensive. an option that was 800 from the dealer cost me 1300 to do myself after buying all the parts from the dealers

Not to mention that even with the add-ons when it comes time to trade the dealer is going to look at it as whatever package it was when you bought it regardless.

I would think you should likely be able to add the switch and it should work without issue.

The parts did not change between 2015 and 2016 for the switch or the harness. :)

Don't know how many hours I wasted, installing aftermarket stereos, cruise controls and messing with the f'n seats on with the cheap crappy seats that come with low end models. My wife taught me because I would buy a cheap model truck and she would buy an upper Accord Lx or Ex . She would just shake her head when I came home with those crap trucks with vinyl bench seats and just an am/fm radio.

All I added was a Intermittent wiper switch that took 10 minutes to install lol.

it cost me 1300 for the factory nav system from VW, after installing it I found out the electronic control module didn't support it and it wasnt turning off when the car was off causing battery drain...new module cost another 500

steering wheel swap cost me 1500 because again needed a new module.
Just not worth it anymore. Rather just buy it with everything.

True but I don't plan on adding navi cause I don't need it lol. I love adding mods to my trunk cause it makes my truck my truck and it can be something that someone else doesn't have!

I like toys which have now become necessities that came on new OR truck that I would not have gotten on the SR. The price difference was just $6k on a 2015 model.

Added one to my 2006 Tacoma was just plug and play. Be careful taking off the airbag. Had to cut a hole with a round hole plug cutter for the cruise control stalk, overall pretty easy
