Hi all, was wondering if anybody has experience running a setup with dual limited slip diffs. Looking to gain a little more cornering traction and drivability for a street-only rig. I have a 3rd gen 4wd taco and am looking to turn it into more of a street-optimized rig, while still retaining the offload capability to handle snowfalls, trips to the outer banks, and other mild offloading situations. I have NO interest in rock crawling in a $40K truck, just am interested in making it a bit more responsive/grippy and fun to drive on the streets, where I do basically all of my driving.

My thinking is that with a setup such as this, my taco would essentially operate like an AWD full time whenever i switch into 4HI, and that this would eliminate the negative effects of running 4WD on dry pavement.

My question is, with a setup like this, is there a way to turn off traction control without activating Auto-LSD? In this case, the auto LSD function would just be needlessly applying brakes since both axles would already be operating passively with limited slip, the Auto LSD function would be useless. As i understand it, the taco still has traction control if the Auto LSD button has not been pressed, so I am wondering if either: there is a way to de-activate traction control independently of the Auto-LSD switch, OR if there is a way to deactivate the 'Auto LSD' function so that when I push the button it only turns off traction control. Thanks!

    Negative.

We have part time 4x4. A limited slip in front would still bind like it was stock open.

Its the transfer case binding not the front or rear.

Shit... thanks for the info Jmaack... Any fix for the T-Case binding other than the admittedly, very tempting, URD T56 swap kit? I find it pretty obnoxious that in a 4wd the 4wd function is unusable for most of the life of the truck. I mean i get that they put in 4wd mostly for offroading guys, but i see no reason for why they haven't devised a system that could work full time regardless of road conditions, like Subarus and mitsubishis and somewhere around half of all SUVs

If you want AWD that's what you should trade your truck for.

A new RAV4 hybrid AWD pulls over 30 mpg city/hwy. With proper seasonal tires (summer and winter sets), it will do as well as a 4wd Tacoma on the pavement for you.

Maybe he dreams of on road performance later on down the road? I know i want it so im not spinning tires all day long when i try to merge with traffic.

Would seem that a rear LSD and proper tires would end that quickly, SC or not.

Anyway, all I was suggesting is that it's a lot cheaper to buy an AWD that to rip open a $35k truck to build one (for the OP)

I have the e-locker so the true lsd option is out and unless im running drag radials its not going to change much of the traction issue. Plus, maybe the op wants smething unique.

    ^^^ this.

Part-time 4wd gives us 4lo, which you don't get with AWD vehicles (or full-time 4wd unless I'm mistaken....edit: I am mistaken, just looked it up). Many people do need the low gearing of 4lo and not just recreationally. If you want all 4 wheels providing traction at all times for street driving then you want an AWD car/suv

There are plenty of awd suvs with low range though. and i think there were a few pickups a while back (GM) that did it as well.

Clearwater Bill, I've got some better handling tires already on there,
    YES!
also Woodex M.E. you got it was going for something unique eventually.

Would love to have the on and offroad performance of AWD in a Taco. Never cared much for the Rav4's styling, and also don't want to give up the third pedal for AWD if I can avoid it.

Just thinking it would be really sweet to be able to have AWD for street driving in a M/T truck. Seeing as the engines in these trucks already come with forged bottom ends as well, it seems like this truck would be a pretty sweet build platform once the aftermarket for them picks up. Just holding out for URD to come up with a monster S/C kit for the 3.5L, get this engine running on a full on miller cycle :stirthepot:
