Want to add footwell or other lighting inside your Tacoma and want it to match 100% to the stock console lighting?

    Solution: Use OEM console lights!

Toyota PN: 81080-12100 or 81080-42030. The difference is just the single tab on the connector for its wiring. I modified mine (see below), so it didn't matter. If one is on backorder, order the other. Literally no difference internally.

These run about $13/ea at the Toyota parts counter.

Inside of both is this little PCB:

For my installs, I didn't need to use the factory-style mount (which is a twist-and-lock keyed hole), so I modified the plastic bodies of the lights for my use. See post 2 for that.

For installs that are 100% hidden, such as footwell lighting, I wanted to make it a simple mount rather than exactly like factory, so I modified the plastic bodies of the lights to suit my desired install method (nut and bolt).

    1) I modified the unit first by removing the useless diffuser (which is how the light fits into the OEM console via that twist-to-lock tab design), then ground down the excess plastic to smooth it out.

    IMG_2722[1].jpg

    2) I drilled a hole through the plastic body 3/4" from the center of the LED, making installation even easier. (e.g. if I want the hole... there, I need the mounting hole 3/4" away). Done and done. Because of this, and to access the screw head, I needed to bend the pins of the PCB 90-degrees up and out, and thus the case top over that area had to be snipped off.

    2) For wiring, our handy Koito Solenoid Pigtails can be modified to clear the light's case with just simple snips.

    IMG_2725[1].jpg

    3) Then just pop the pigtail on, decide where to mount them, and wire them to the desired circuit. For door lighting, I'd find the wire for the window switch illumination. For console / footwell lighting, I'd just splice into the stock console light.

Neat, do you know the part number to the OEM power connector, instead of the Koito one?

Do you know what circuit powers the console lamps?

Subd. Could be a good solution for a glove box light.

I think the whole point was having the lighting match. If i decide I want footwell lights (or even glove box) this is the route I’ll be going.

I understand, I did have white LED in the glove box at first but it was to hard on the eyes late at night when the wife was looking for something, so i changed to blue. by the way, my bed lights i also changed to blue and will add blue LED to the bottom back seat foot area . I do like the link for the OEM blue lights, may be the simpler way to do it.
