Just wondering how feasible this is, I’d like to install one of those sandwich boards with two ports for press/temp probes to my oil filter. To read and display these values, I was thinking of using a microcontroller hooked up to both probes and the CAN bus. The controller would process the temp/press values and handle the CAN bus comm. Is this feasible?

the idea is that I’d be able to view these values alongside other values on the OBD Fusion app. I just like the idea of having everything in one place. As far as I can tell, I’d be using a microcontroller anyway to process the resistance/voltage values from the temp/press probes anyway so it doesn’t seem like much of a stretch.

It's not a good idea to inject data on a vehicle CAN bus, you risk causing communication issues with modules on the truck.

Would not assigning the module and associated messages a low priority/ID not automatically fix this during arbitration? Or is the issue that I might select an ID that matches some other message ID that’s already being transmitted?

I don't know that level of detail about CAN systems, I just know I've had to take alot of aftermarket stuff out of vehicles that was tapped into data busses and was screwing them up.

Sounds like a bad idea then. But I might try it anyway unless someone definitively shoots down the idea. :frusty:
