I can’t remember if 3 or 4 fit across, but I think it’s 4, right up against the tailgate.

Just measured one at 14-3/4 inches high. If you know anyone with cats, they might have a bunch of these sitting around that they’ll let you have.

I ran 6 sandbags last winter against the front of the box, pinned against the front by a couple of (empty) gas cans, a storage box with recovery gear and an adjustable cargo bar to hold it all forward, while being on top of a Toyota bed mat. But that was with the factory tires on a TRD OR on a high mountain pass that gets a lot of winter snow. But have more gear in the back and will be running better tires this winter. So may not need that many if any.

Is is washed rock? Order whatever size, shape or material you need. You might tell them that you're using gravel instead of sand and see if they'll reinforce the seams. Save 'em for Spring and Summer and move your workouts outside. Use them for squats, lunges, etc.

Winter fuel mileage sucks carrying more weight does not help most states do plow their roads so unless you have a need to go into the woods your carrying a lot of weight for nothing.

I just put a bit of firewood in the bed for added traction.

I buy 4 bags of Water Softener salt and place over rear axel every fall (have a cap on the truck). They add enough weight to keep the tires planted in light snow/ice while in 2wd and the bags do not slide around. In the spring i remove them and use the salt in my water softener.

Someone said RR track. RR track is rated in pounds per foot so be careful in what you ask for 90-120 pounds is pretty normal.

It's not good practice to only have two snow tires.

So far just chrome blackout using plastidip
Park your truck on the street and shovel your driveway into the bed. That way when you no longer need the added weight it just melts away with the rest of the snow.

I looped my Honda Civic because of this. Hit black ice and the difference in traction from one axle to the other and I never recovered the skid. Went a half mile sliding on the hwy in traffic and had got it so I could stuff it in the snow bank in the ditch. Dude entering the on ramp wasn’t paying attention and didn’t see me sliding so I pulled it back to avoid him and went across 3 lanes and went into the cement median.

All 4 snows or all 4 new tires.

    D-ring tie-downs.
I personally wouldn’t put anything hard like masonry or steel or buckets/containers in the bed without securing it. Vehicles handle best when weight is even all the way around. If a few sandbags helps a little I’m all for it in bad weather.

    I have decided on the Falken Wildpeak AT3W in 285/75 - 16.

ok. I've seen several others go with those. Will be interesting to see how you like them this winter. Several people here are liking Duratracs in that size. Duratracs appear to come in two different load ratings and some claim the compound is different between the two.

I've driven pickup trucks since I started driving - over 30 years now - but have never had one with all this traction control stuff. I live in a rural area and the roads I take to work don't normally see a plow for hours after I get to work. In fact, for the last 6 miles or so it's rare to see more than one other set of tire tracks on some of the roads on my way to work, and that's from one of my co-workers who comes in earlier than me.

I've always put 5 5-gallon buckets full of sand in the back whenever they're calling for snow. I either strapped them against the tailgate, or in my last truck the bedliner had a notch for a 2x8 that was just the right distance from the tailgate to keep the buckets in place. I can count on one hand the times I needed to use 4wd, even going over the mountain.

This year I'm going to try without the extra weight. In fact, I donated the sand to my daughter's school a few months ago. I saved the buckets and lids in case I find I need the weight. I'll just have to get sand.

The nice thing with the buckets is that they're easy to store in the warmer months, and the sand won't freeze (since it won't get wet), so I can still use it for traction if I need to.

I have seen others go with that tire also. Several in this area are happy with Duratrac for ice/snow. Looks like 2 different load ratings on the duratracs. Some claim the compound is different between the two. Will have to look at the Falken Wildpeak also.

I went back and forth on which tire to go with between the 2. it pretty much came down to the average rating on 1010tire.com (similar to tirerack here in Canada, but not nearly as big) and the price.
