So I've been getting poor mileage (15 mpg).

I changed my air filter and it went from 13 to 15 which is nice but when I was living in New Mexico I was getting 25. Granted the roads are much more open there but NJ traffic shouldn't account for a 10 mpg loss.

When I worked for the USFS we needed to tac our chainsaws depending on the altitude we were working at.

Does the same principle apply to trucks?

My truck spent most of its life at or above a mile in altitude, so since I'm now at sea level is my truck choking on richer air?

2wd 2.7L pre runner...I'll be interested to hear what you guys think.

    Thanks.

Yea there's no carb so I know I wouldn't have the adjuster screws like a saw but there's never adjustment needed? I should be able to go up and down in elevation and it won't effect the air/fuel mixture? I guess I don't really know how fuel injection works besides the fact that it's in lieu of a carb.

At higher altitudes, the fuel injection compensates for lack of O2 and baro pressure and backs the fuel usage/percentage off,,hence more fuel in your tank and better mileage,,to a point and not all vehicles included. Power goes down a bit and mileage goes up.

Penny pinching USFS would have you tach your chainsaws,,sounds like them. No need to tach them,,just watch the exhaust stream exit at full sing. Should be nice and rich but not bellowing big thick exhaust clouds.

    New Mexico for New Jersey??

    Thanks for the replies. Understood.

Haha I know...what was I thinking? I came back post-Sandy and ended up sticking around.

    Thanks again for the help.
