Is there a way to adjust the timing on my truck? 2007 Base, 2.7. Unless I run 91 or higher octane, the engine pings when you lug the engine; also after you slow down for traffic or a turn, and then hit the accelerator - it pings when I run 87 (Regular). So back to my question, can the timing be adjusted so that it doesn't ping? I assume this is pre-ignition (plugs firing prior to soon). I assume the dealer has a machine to do it. Or, maybe the engine is just old. 265,000 miles on it.

    That's a lot of miles.
    Maybe just don't lug it?

Spontaneously combustion prior to spark plug ignition. To lean a fuel mixture is the most likely reason here.

Have you replaced your fuel filter or pump ever?

Have you checked your vacuum hoses for cracks and leaks?
