Admittedly, I only have about 6,000 miles...

...on my 2016 V6 MT 4WD Tacoma Sport, but I don't really have any serious misgivings or problems with the vehicle. Nothing has broken off, fallen off, failed to work properly, et cetera.

I test drove 2016 Chevy, Nissan, and Dodge trucks for comparison. I recall the Chevy had a spiffier interior, but I'm still a little nervous about GM's long-term viability and the mediocre reputation for trouble-free service of many of its vehicles, and the Toyota products seem to have better resale value. I was completely unimpressed with the Nissan and the Dodge offerings.

Truck seems peppy enough for my tastes, I like the six-speed manual, even though it is a bit clunky. I don't like the relatively small door opening that requires me to bend like a pretzel to get inside, but a couple of the other trucks I tested have similar openings. The acceleration, handling, ride, are what I expect from a truck, and in the 55 years I've been driving them, are nothing unusual. I'm getting between 22 and 23 mpg most of the time in my mixed suburban-rural driving.

I also wish the tailgate auto-locked when I lock the truck, but I've learned to lock it manually when I'm not using the bed for anything.

I've owned a few Toyota vehicles previously and in fact have a year old Camry sitting in the garage, too. Until recently, had a 2004 4Runner on which I logged about 235,000 trouble-free miles, during which time I only had to change the oil and filters, replace a couple of batteries, replace brake pads, et cetera. Nothing, and I mean nothing, broke.

I'm not a "fanboy," but I did spend some time considering options before I bought the Tacoma. I like my truck. :)

Nice review! I'm happy with mine so far. Hope it continues to be "trouble free" for you!

Yeah the auto tail gate lock would be nice. Why do they only give us 1 key for it? I've had mine for 3 months now and has met all expectations without any drama. Getting 21-22 mpg driving mostly 70-75 mph highways. Only wish here is that the telescopic wheel came out a bit further.

There are a lot of ridgeline, colorado, gm and other owners in here in disguise imo that constantly bash. Howling holes up front is the funniest one. Big issue. The NHTSA main complaint - a radio that resets, 23 complaints. OMG ! I have 0 issues also.

I had an issue with mine, but it's only happened twice and I can't replicate it; Driving around 79-83 MPH (Speed limit in 75) with heavy cross winds, there was a whistling/howling. The vehicle I had just traded in for the Taco was a 2011 Honda Element...the windshield had been replaced multiple times (5). The last time, it behaved similarly and I had to get a Safelite guy to jump in while I drove to replicate in (in the Honda), which was pretty easy to do. Basically, he replaced the windshield and the side mouldings before it would stop. Well that was a honda, this is a new Taco......I haven't been able to get it to happen again since I picked it up and drove back east to GA. The NM wind is kinda unique to that geographical area compared to east of the Mississippi (Wide open spaces, strong winds that back east are considered 'gale', dry climate, etc) That's been my only glaring issue so I'm stoked....I can argue the wisdom of taking on a car payment only 4 months after paying one off, but I love my Taco; selling bike and even guns to fund taco-projects!

Do you need to know, or care?
I like your review, but I found the part about the door opening puzzling. To me, these doors open wide and I can just jump in. Are you tall? Could be the reason, I'm only 5' 8", so maybe that's why it's ok for me.
