    Nice...yah I’m at 7/8” rake with the 6-leaf Dakar and all I have is a 135lb bumper/winch combo (c4 Lo-Pro bumper)

    Kinda miss a little rake.

No way you have 11-12" of droop left in the shock. You would need a bed cage to even position the shock high enough to have 4" of up travel and 11-12" of droop, which equates to a 16" stroke shock. The stock location only supports a 10 or 11" shock max to my knowledge and even then you have to space your bumps. I think the Bilstein extended B110 shocks are like 10.9". Regardless, it's always a good idea to cycle the suspension to make sure it bottoms out at the bumpstop before the shock. So if your ride height has you at 4" of shaft showing, you should have no less than .75" of shaft showing at bump.

Ok thank you for the clarification, I though that seemed off. Is 4” of shaft showing normal when flat?

It depends. If you know the travel of your shock, the amount of shaft showing for the stock mounting location is dependent on what your ride height is and how far your leaf suspension is from bottoming the bumps on the frame. Obviously, if sitting at 1” of lift, you’ll have less shaft showing (more droop remaining), than if your ride height was set at 3” of lift (more shaft showing but less droop remaining). Either way you want your suspension to operate within your shock’s travel range.

Ok. Thank you, that makes sense.

I only have 1.75” front and. 2.25” in rear

So based on my lift height, 4” of shaft showing sounds right. I think I need new rear leafs. I have the original squeaky Dakar

Thanks man. For some reason 4” seemed low. Makes more sense after it’s been explained by guys who know.

I’m looking at a 14” shock body and not taking into consideration the internal parts taking up some of that space + oil + bumpers etc.

    My brain is duh today

Lol, no worries. And this is good information that works for every suspension system, not limited to ADS or Kings.

My bypasses Im trying to install have a 14” stroke with a welded lower rod end to shorten up the compressed length. But I have to relocate the shocks much higher, as shown here with the new shock towers I’ll be using from Archive Garage.

A bad alignment will only cause problems with your tires, so if you are replacing those also don't worry about it.

    Lots of expensive shit
These are all specs for front shocks, not rear shocks.

The OEM Tacoma Rears from ADS are a 9.5" travel shock. I dont know what Marie spec'd out for her rear ext length shocks.

    Here’s another question.

I assume the lower mounts on the rear shocks are suppose to swivel given they have a ball like attachment in the bolt sleeve. Weird thing is I have driven a bit and the driver side is still crooked. Is this normal?

Thanks. I assume they will swivel back to center if I hit a bump

Doesn’t most newer Tacoma stuff fit the GX’s?

My friend did a BP-51 kit from a taco

Oh. The front mounts to the sway bar mount holes. Do GX’s have sway bar mounts like the Tacos? That I’m not sure of...:notsure:

Is there any difference that you can tell on the 4Runner specific shock?
